I wonder what this is all about.
Well, the new Nintendo Wii (home console) will have a "Virtual Console" feature. As I understand it, it's a emulator-type environment that allows you to purchase* and play 1st (and possibly some 3rd) party titles from past Nintendo consoles.
For instance, if you're really fond of the original ExciteBike, you can purchase* it again for your new Wii, and have it downloaded** to your console for play. According to this rumor, apparently some 3rd party titles for Amiga may also be available in that same environment.
What I haven't heard adequately explained yet:
* (PURCHASE) -- Do you really PURCHASE the game, or is it pay-to-play? If it *IS* purchase, what happens when Nintendo retires the Wii for the next big thing?
** (DOWNLOAD) -- Do you have the game downloaded to your console, or do you just get a license to play it on-line with your account? Does the game stick with your account or your console or both?
The Wii is a really interesting little beast. I'd really like to hear some straight answers to these questions, though....
