I was hoping to get my hands on one of these anyway; depending on what games they come up with I may be even happier.

I am, of course, assuming that it will be companies such as EA and Factor 5 that will have games that would fit the bill.  Would be nice to see the 'impossible', though (such as SWIV).

I wish Mr Nutz had been ported to ANY other system from the Amiga version.   I know its not the best game in the world but I like it and its a BILLION times better than the SNES version which is the one that got released on GBA.

As for Wii, I agree that its probably just a load of EA stuff.  Trouble is so much stuff no publisher has the rights to anymore so its pretty limited what can get released.

Well, the new Nintendo Wii (home console) will have a "Virtual Console" feature.  As I understand it, it's a emulator-type environment that allows you to purchase* and play 1st (and possibly some 3rd) party titles from past Nintendo consoles.

For instance, if you're really fond of the original ExciteBike, you can purchase* it again for your new Wii, and have it downloaded** to your console for play.  According to this rumor, apparently some 3rd party titles for Amiga may also be available in that same environment.

What I haven't heard adequately explained yet:

* (PURCHASE) -- Do you really PURCHASE the game, or is it pay-to-play?  If it *IS* purchase, what happens when Nintendo retires the Wii for the next big thing?

** (DOWNLOAD) -- Do you have the game downloaded to your console, or do you just get a license to play it on-line with your account?  Does the game stick with your account or your console or both?

The Wii is a really interesting little beast.  I'd really like to hear some straight answers to these questions, though....

Actually it's got 8 launch titles from Ubisoft, 4 from Activision, 4 from THQ, 6 from EA and a couple of dozen from a bunch of smaller publishers.

Some are "launch window" not launch day.

So yeah, it's got ALOT of support.  I guess most of you from outside the USA didn't hear about all the buzz it generated at E3...4 hour wait to try it out...

The Japanese conference held 9-14 had a list of 102 games...

It'll be interesting to see which Amiga games are available. Personally, some Team 17 classics would be good. :-)

Couple of questions: how would games that require keyboard input be possible? And does this mean that the Virtual Console has a full UAE implementation build in?
After a decade away from the scene, I am back!

Well, I'll believe it when I'm playing them but you've gotta love the irony - it took Nintendo to revive the Amiga - if there's some truly great games in there (and lets face it, the Amiga has many) thousands of people all over the world could end up playing them...

Life is strange sometimes eh?

Interestingly enough though, Amiga Inc. MUST know about this since if there's any kind of emulation going on then Nintendo would need to license the Amiga ROMs. I heard a rumor that Genesis games were also going to be playable on the Wii - my bet is that rather than seeing 'true' Amiga games we'll get the Genesis ports.

Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope I can play Chaos Engine at some point on the Wii (and not the crappy console versions) :-D

Hey, CD32 version is quite nice, I actually consider it better (too bad also a bit slower) than the disk version :-D

Also, most A500 games probably don't need "real" rom images anyway anymore.

/wishful thinking mode on
If it does include a UAE derivative, it'd be great if some way was provided for getting ADF files on to the machine...
/wishful thinking mode off

But no doubt it'll be closed up and the only way to get games on to it will be to pay.

/dream mode on
Imagine a Wii with UAE plus USB Catweasel!
/dream mode off

No chance!

Do you remember? from Bill Q&A:

Yes, Amiga actually entered into a contract in 2005 with a firm to develop some products based on the Amiga classic technologies and we are looking forward to seeing those products. We have also been in discussions with the creator of the MiniMig, but he decided to go another direction.

We are working on a product that would allow the retro games to be played on various devices, and I hope that we will have some more concrete timing on that product very soon.

UUUMMMHHH!!!!   May be Nintendo is that firm  :-D
