Very nice. Good work Jens.

Any news about the redesigned A630 accelerator?

Heh. I always knew someone would find a way to get more than memory signals out of the A600 trapdoor :-)

EDIT: I guess this could open the door for other trapdoor expansions - integrated Chip RAM, clock, and USB and Ethernet board, anyone? Any way to slap some Fast RAM on there?

I think it's cool that people are still interested in making stuff and that there are still people that want to buy it. If the C=64 can have enthusiasts that spend money, why can't Amiga? I guess it can. :-)

My A600 memory expansion has been dead for ages, so this is great news!

I wonder if you can replace the battery?

Also, I thought the delfina was incompatible with the a600 clockport adapter - this has changed now the clockport connects to the trapdoor slot?

I hadn't heard this. It could be that it needs a CPU better than a plain 68000.

The old clockport-adapter (initially made for the Silversurfer) is really incompatible with the Delfina, because the software expects the A1200 address mapping.

The Silversurfer adapter (which only goes on the Gayle chip of the A600) uses a slightly different address mapping. The adapter and this new expansion cannot be used at the same time.

The clockport of this new expansion has exactly the same address mapping as the A1200 clockport, so with an 020 or higher processor, the Delfina will also work, just like many other clockport expansions. Even the Melody (mentioned somewhere in this thread) will work, as software does not have to be patched.

greetings,
Jens Schönfeld

BenShep:

The battery is mounted on the back with Velcro tape. The contacts are soldered, so you'll need a soldering iron to replace the battery.

I'd expect the first replace to be necessary sometime in 6-8 years. The self-discharge of this cell is probably higher than the energy that goes into the RTC chip, and this battery is huge compared to other batteries used on older Amiga RTC designs.

@Schoenfeld

Thanks for your answers - it's good to know more devices can now be used with the A600.  I have not heard of the melody before - what is it?

It is also good that the RTC is not an all in one battery+clock type (like the Dallas ones) - which are inconvenient to replace.

7-8 years was about my expectation - but considering the life of the Amiga so far, it's not unreasonable to expect it will require replacement in the future.

Hopefully that type of battery is still around then (or obtainable in Australia).  For this reason, I probably would have preferred a CR2032 coin cell battery.
