@Schoenfeld

Thanks for your answers - it's good to know more devices can now be used with the A600.  I have not heard of the melody before - what is it?

It is also good that the RTC is not an all in one battery+clock type (like the Dallas ones) - which are inconvenient to replace.

7-8 years was about my expectation - but considering the life of the Amiga so far, it's not unreasonable to expect it will require replacement in the future.

Hopefully that type of battery is still around then (or obtainable in Australia).  For this reason, I probably would have preferred a CR2032 coin cell battery.

The required battery is really generic - you need something between 3V and 5V and solder it to the two points. I'm pretty sure that some energy source like that will be around for the next few decades, no matter where on the planet you are.

The needed current is really small, so I guess even a few lemons with copper and aluminium nails in them will do the job until you find a battery. The OKI chip starts running at 2.4V, and the lower end you get out of a lemon is 0.7V, so tell your local supermarket to set four lemons aside for june 2014 :-)

B00tDisk:

Working on it. I'm doing the first logic tests, and the mechanical parts for proper mounting of the board are already shipped. I can't tell how long to go - could be that it works within the next two weeks, could take another two months.

Now that sounds exciting. Put me down for one.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jens.

I forget, what were they going to be?  28's, 33's, 40's or 50's?  (Clock speed that is)

Yup - exciting.  Will it be a clone of the Apollo 630 (with improved quality) or will extra features be added?

Also - could it be designed to be installed without having to move the harddrive?

PCMCIA fast mem would have been more useful. 1mb trapdoor expansions are pretty easy to come by elsewhere.

but well done for continuing to support the a600!
