Hy guys, i have a big problem with my XP station at work.

When i share a folder under Xp Home Edition, it let to connect only 5-6 computer at one times. I MUST connect all computer to one database in my station and i can't. I think i must edit a register key, right?

Do you know where i can to change this setting allow more than 6 connection at once for the shered fiels?

AFAIK this is not possible under XP home. It's networking capabilities are chopped down to a minimum...  How many computer need access to the document?

A lot of businesses can't seem to justify the extra expense. A lot of the times, I guess they are right.

I don't think you can connect more than 5 computers to services running on a Windows XP Home edition machine without breaking the EULA.

Eula says!

"You may permit a maximum of five (5) ("Connection Maximum") computers or other electronic devices (each a "Device") to connect to the COMPUTER to utilize one or more of the following services of the SOFTWARE: File services, Print services, Internet Information services, and remote access (including connection sharing and telephony services).  The five (5) Connection Maximum includes any indirect connections made through "multiplexing" or other software or hardware which pools or aggregates connections.  Except as otherwise permitted herein, you may not use the Device to use, access, display or run the SOFTWARE, the SOFTWARE's User Interface or other executable software residing on the COMPUTER.  This ten connection maximum does not apply to any other uses of the Product."

This is cut from Eula, but what does it mean on the last sentence? "This ten connect...."

@bloodmoney: Don't take this as I write it to you especially (you're excused as a beginner).

@Everybody: It's really annoying when people complain about this or that being related to the newsgroup in question. Slashdot is an excellent example on how things can go really wrong. If someone posts something about BeOS there the entire comment thread is littered with complaints about it being unrelated while news about NASA's latest portable craphouse (or MS even) gets zero such complaints.

It's either ontopic IN THE THREAD, or not. People shouldn't have to make excuses f.ex. for both wanting to know what a chromakey is and wanting to buy one for person X behalf (recent example).

I fix installing Windows 2000. Sorry if this topic  wasn't in the right place, move it moderators.

Yes we was using Xp as client control over 10' computers clients..... not my fault.

In the near future we'll be the first to.... eh eh eh i'll say something about it soon.

Maybe they count bidirectional communication as two connections? :)

yep... XP does indeed suck... I just got a "new" box yesterday.... PII 450(512k), 128mb ram... Installed NT4.0 on it, and it flied on it even compared to a modern ahtlon/p4 running winXP or win2k! Indeed the best OS that microsoft released... too bad they discontinued it  :-(

And btw.. after installing everything, it used only 28MB ram... pretty good to be windows..  :-D
