MLdonkey 2.5-4 for MorphOS/ PowerPC released
« on: November 13, 2003, 12:06:29 AM »
MLdonkey is a multi-platform multi-networks peer-to-peer client. Originally, it was the first open-source client to access the eDonkey network. The protocol was 'reverse-engeneered' using an efficient protocol sniffer, Pandora.

Currently, with eDonkey , it supports several large networks, such as Overnet, Bittorrent, Gnutella (Bearshare, Limewire, etc), Gnutella2 (Shareaza), Fasttrack (Kazaa, Imesh, Grobster), Soulseek (beta), Direct-Connect (alpha), and Opennap (alpha).

The MorphOS release does not only come with the mlnet binary which was done by Sigbjørn Skjæret using his Objective-Caml port for MorphOS, it also features some extra stuff like zuul, an open-source PHP interface for MLdonkey, which was adjusted for use with Amiga browsers.

Download it from here!

You will can use it on MorphOS for AmigaPPC that will be for free ;) but PPC card required, of course, MorphOS is a 100% PPC OS.

@bbrv

 I agree! Its amazing.. Morphos and Pegasos keeps on rockin' Congratulations to christian rosentreter and all the others that made it happen. There are now not many things you cant do with a Pegasos that you can do with a Windoze Box - its getting to the point where a Pegasos can do ANYTHING

Does it have some MOS specific features that make a 68K port impossible? I presume its code is in C. Even the application doesn't seem to have excessive CPU requirements (we had a similar experience with Amster).

As for the PPC, not all the AMiGA users have a PPC card, not to speak for the latest MOS version available to public (outdated, and not usable for such software: 1h limit, imagine downloading something and drop the emulation speed to an A500). :-)

Well, apart from the coders being hardcore MOS fans ;-), it does eat serious CPU sometimes - up to 60% on a 600MHz G3. I'm not sure a real 68k CPU could run it. Maybe even an emulated one couldn't.

MLdonkey is in OCaml
MorphOS has the OCaml compiler.
