How many more true Amiga people will it take for Genesi to get on board before the Amino fanboys concede Pegasos IS the nextgen Amiga?

Now that is certainly an endearing way to invite other people to listen to your idea.

I only have one thing to say about this: Fantastic!
Not only for RJ, but for the thought of the mobile Pegasos.

Well done - this is what is needed.

Huh? that argument doesn't make any sense... that's like saying that if you get enough Chinese into Belgium, Belgium will become a part of China.

I can see how Genesi can say that their stuff has to be pretty cool if they can attract all these ex-Amiga heavyweights, but no-one can claim anything (pro or against) about what this means for the Pegasos' status as "the new Amiga."

@gravyboat:

That "red jade" sounds a lot like the Nokia N-Gage.  I wonder if that's where they ended up?

The next Amiga? Why set sights so low? ;  }

Joke aside, it's one step at a time, and those steps are NOT leading to a marketplace with a small handful of zealots. The development of MorphOS as an Amiga-informed desktop OS is only part of the picture. Tailored versions of MorphOS or other operating systems running on branded products such as the Crunchbox and the upcoming DTV settop are going to do more to pay for ongoing development, and RJ is involved to help us go farther abroad. Though the non-desktop IT sector has a lot of failures and aborted products littering its landscape, the horizon there is still more tempting than a teensy island with an ingrown population and a small lake around it {or is that just a moat? ;  }

 It's not that hard to think of the risks involved when its obvious to most that the "Amiga marketplace" will not likely expand beyond a certain point, the island's boundaries long since defined by other desktop OSes. If MorphOS is to become more, it needs to be underwritten by hardware sales - and developments that lead to more hardware, more spinoffs OF that hardware, and hardware sales.

MorphOS on the Pegasos exists now, but being "an Amiga" is not enough. RJ knows that, Genesi knows that, and most users of MorphOS ON the desktop will be glad of this when they see MorphOS continuing to get funding over the years, developing and benefiting from what is needed for various projects and products that are not aimed only at the desktop.

@greenboy:

I think you're referring to the island where they built the lunatic asylum  :-P

It only makes sense that Genesi is going after bigger fish than the Amiga market, just as Amiga Inc seems to be.  It's interesting to contrast the two companies - Amiga Inc seems to believe that hardware is just just something to ground the software on (hence Fleecy's whole hardware-agnostic mantra), while Genesi clearly believes that hardware is where the future is.  At the moment, Genesi's strategy seems to be paying off, especially in the light of all of Amiga Inc's hardware partners dropping them after agreeing to work together (I was actually glad to hear about MS giving Sendo the shaft - what goes around comes around).

CodeSmith,

It's hard to tell what Amiga Inc might REALLY believe - and what does that matter anyway if they can't or won't pay their taxes, their employees, or their bills. And when questioned, have dissimulated or even lied about it.

It's easier to understand what Genesi, Hyperion, AROS, RJ Mical, or REBOL Technologies, QNX, etc believe because at least SOME of those have sent out T-shirts that SAY IT ;  }

Seriously though: business plans may be easy to remark on, we can all play armchair football captain. But as they tend to evolve based on solvency, market conditions, new thoughts, and new alliances, feedback is important. Paying attention is important.

Getting out a product or two, seeing what it means, then getting new ones in the hopper, getting a little more established, making sure that finance is not precarious (that's feedback too!) - it's a process, in many cases - and not an absolute. In the process one tries to make best use of already-in-hand IP, gaining though R&D or partnership still other IP, assembling it into whatever could be compelling, useful, profitable.

Anyway, what WE as observers can see (or feel) is usually more of a silhouette that we can hang suppositions on. Guessing that an elephant is a broom or vice versa can be somewhat avoided, but sometimes it has to be around for awhile to actually understand the shape : }

It will take 3 more.

<--sorry, I just get a thrill from answering rhetorical questions.   Actually, to answer the question, I don't think the next generation amiga will come from endorsements....but thats not to say I don't think Genesi couldn't potentially be viewed as the next Amiga.

just sell a few million units, that ought to wrap up the argument quite nicely :-)

Should be a great year for Amigaland....for both OS 4, and for Genesi, it appears.....

can't wait to watch it all from the sidelines :-)

I wonder if you wanted to build a BETTER X-Ray device for the medical profession and,

you employed heaps of ex-Amiga Illuminati(?)

would you then claim that your X-Ray device was - - -
  an Amiga?    :-o
