R.J. Mical assumes evaluation role for Genesi
« on: November 08, 2003, 04:37:10 PM »
Genesi today announced that RJ Mical will assume an evaluation role for Genesi.

RJ Mical was a co-inventor of the Atari Lynx handheld game system and the 3DO entertainment console, and was also head of software engineering at Ericsson Red Jade.  Most recently, RJ has been the Chief Architect for the Fathammer mobile game engine and continues today to serve as a Director. RJ will be making a full assessment of the Pegasos and MorphOS and prepare a plan to assist Genesi to move the Pegasos into the world of mobile devices.

RJ will be meeting with Pegasos and MorphOS Developers and Users this coming week in Helsinki. He will be in Finland on Fathammer business.

I've never played with a Lynx, but the 3D0 was something else.

(But I preferred the Jaguar, sorry RJ)

the lynx was/is such a great game machine it a company would have to TRY to make it a failure.

unfortunately, atari had a lot of practice.

It's amazing how atari managed to screw-up every computer/console they released after the mega ST! I mean, after the first 2 faulures they should have sat down and think "We must have done something wrong there"... but no, they kept releasing killer products (for their time- Falcon, Lynx, Jaguar) and watch them fail soon after....

The MegaST was done under Sam Tramiel's watch.  He had a heart attack shortly after the Jaguar's launch, and his father Jack took over.  First thing Jack did was slash advertising and support budgets across the board.

Worst thing i done was give my lynx away it failed due to being over 200 pound when released and atari never cut the price until it was to late.

Sold my Lynx for 35quid in 1996 with 20 games.  Needed the money for a night out! Still regret that decision.  Sold my NGPC for the same price with 4 games a couple of years ago, it was cool but the Lynx was better and ten years older!

RoadRash on 3DO is still the best bike racer  I've ever played to this day.

RJ rocks!

How many more true Amiga people will it take for Genesi to get on board before the Amino fanboys concede Pegasos IS the nextgen Amiga? :-)

The Name(TM)… ;) The brand names makes it inelastic in regards demand (in economic trems).

In term of seeing the “successor”, the issues are quite similar to OS/2Warp Vs Windows (Vs VMS). These OSes has a common heritage. Similarly, the 3DO has some common relationship (due to its architects) with Amiga but the market didn’t see this as “Amiga”.

IF you notice, some of Amiga(TM)OS fans have accepted Pegy II as a potential HW solution (probably due to price), but they wanted AmigaOS4.0 on this HW. Having just the AmigaOS 3.X capability may not be deemed to be enough to equate CompetitorOS as “AmigaOS” due to the missing "AmigaOS 4.0".

Set of AmigaOS(TM) = {AmigaOS 1.X, AmigaOS 2.X AmigaOS 3.X, AmigaOS 4.X}.

Set of MorphOS = {AmigaOS 1.X*, AmigaOS 2.X* AmigaOS 3.X, QBOX} *Assumed.

Similar to
Set of MS Windows(TM) = {Windows 1.x/2.x/3.x, Windows 9x, Windows NT/2K/XP/2K3, Windows CE, Windows Longhorn}.

Set of MS Windows(TM) != {OS/2 2.0, OS/2 Warp 4.0, Win16} .
Amiga 1200 PiStorm32-Emu68-RPI 4B 4GB.
Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB, RTX 4080 16 GB PC.

Spoken like a true fanboy.  I think you'd better put your private altar away before anyone sees it :-D

Now that is certainly an endearing way to invite other people to listen to your idea.
