@Wayne

Could you elaborate on this some, i dont think Amiga Inc is willing to develop for the "competition" as stated earlier regarding OS4, and legal issues aside you can't force a company to actually develop/port something for someone if they don't want to. They can always avoid it.

Besides, i tought Amiga didn“t have any money for anything ;-)

Step,

While I know what's going on, it's not my place to elaborate.  Sorry.  You might want to ask the appropriate people.

@Hooligan_DCS

Not really. Just being ported to MorphOS won't make AmigaDE any less lame than it is now. My guess is that the ability to use the Amiga trademark is more valuable than anything AmigaDE will ever add to the Pegasos.

OTOH, I'm inclined to wait until this is confirmed by the other parties involved. I've heard unilateral claims before, and most of the time they don't turn out to be true.

bhogget: well. I'll agree. AmigaDE has not been a huge success and
even if it appeared to Pegasos (standalone or running atop of some
Os?) it would not make it much more interesting.

But... perhaps this all has some deeper mening in it. :)

>Amiga DE is not AmigaOS. Unde the page of
>Operating System if i read Amiga i think to
>AmigaOS.

That's what you may think, but that's nothing about how Amiga defines themselves (from the Amiga homepage):

"About Amiga
Amiga Inc. established itself in 1985 as the premier
provider of multi-media technologies
in the world. Today, Amiga continues leading the
way in multi-media by providing language
independent technologies to developers for writing
and porting applications to a new multi-media
platform that is hardware agnostic. AmigaDE,
powered with intent(TM) from the Tao Group,
enables applications to run unchanged on a broad
range of processors including ARM, StrongARM,
Intel X-Scale, MIPS, Intel x86, Motorola 68K and
Hitachi SH. It can run hosted on a wide variety of
operating systems including Windows CE .NET,
Windows 9x, 2000, Windows XP, Linux, and
Embedded Linux. Amiga is based in Snoqualmie,
WA, and has offices worldwide."

Nothing about some other "AmigaOS" there.

>Update the page writing AMIGA DE not Amiga with >the boing ball

The boing ball seems to be the official AmigaDE logo
(see de.amiga.com).

Some things should be clarified:

1)  "AmigaOS 3.x": Does it refers to the MorphOS ABox emulation ? or UAE ?

2) "AmigaDE": Is it a (Linux) hosted port ? If not, what is it exactly ?

re: bobsonsirjonny:

Yeah me too. saw this on ann.
Immediate reaction "oh aye !".
had a look at the provided link.
reaction "oh.     ooh!      eh ?"
clicked on link at genesi ...
reaction "ahhh.  hmmm. marketing !"
Nice to see though !
personally dunt bother me as I have an A1 already, but nice to see the DE getting onto non x86 (ie: PPC) hardware (apart from PDAs 'n' Phones).

for whoever it was who asked, no it probably will be a native porting of the elate / intent layers and APIs, atop which the DE stuff will run.

pity I cant get it on PPC linux, cos I'd really like to play with it, but I presume this will be available for OS4.x customers first ?

@Wayne:

Can you tell us at least when we could expect some sort of announcement?  I don't think the DE as such is such a great idea (native code will always be more efficient - just look at how slow Java and C# are), but the implications are staggering: are amiga and genesi finally burying the hatchet? did the two Bills sit down and realize that the pie is so small, that unless they share no-one's getting anything worthwhile?

Right. I don't like Genesi because they USE the "Amiga" word only when they want. And then attack Amiga inc, OS4 ecc ecc.

The 99% of amigans AND normal computer users when see "Amiga" under the supported OPERATING SYSTEM think to AmigaOS. This is not an opinion. So OS4 is not going to be ported to Pegasos (yet).... in conclusion Genesi cheats with false propaganda.

Last time I checked on who owns the Amiga trademark....  :-)

Anyhows...if you click the link now...you get a different page that indicates that the referring page is not authorized to use the trademark...maybe they should lookup who owns the trademark.  :-)

I would buy Hyperion OS if it was ported to the Pegasos.

It's funny to see unofficial Ainc  at works. Now that link to AmigaDE
no longer work cause some semi-amateur webmaster has decided Genesi
has no right to link to it

@JoannaK

-EDIT-
Yup, I know I was being too childish here, and opening it up for trolling, so my appologies.  And Ray, I was not meaning to insult your web coding skill, it's just that I never could get the site to render properly on most web browsers I run.  (Opera is a good example)

No it isn't.

It's childish, petulant and petty, but not illegal.  It's the responsibility of the linking site to maintain live links, not that of the site being linkted to, so while a certain person may be acting like a spoiled baby, he's not doing anything illegal this time.

Ahh.. Typical, when you can't fight the result you go for cheap shots at the implementor.  You might as well give up by the way. I've been insulted by far better and more important.

Fact is, while I was one of 2 that came up with the idea,  the decision to effect it, came from the Amiga Executive crew which, for your information, makes it official.  See, it is on the Amiga, Inc. website.  And what did Bill say to you fine people?  If it is Official Amiga business or activity, it will be on the Amiga, Inc. website.
