Well, I hope so, but you probably missed all the really heavy hints Genesi and bbrv have been dropping lately about a change of name to Pegasos - with Atari being one of the possibilities.

It seems I missed it...  :-o
But see the irony of it, after all those years it would be again a Amiga Vs Atari thing going on...  :-P

This is some of the best news I have heard in years.  I welcome Nolan
and have some real respect for his involvment in the video  game
industry.  I got my start in video games on the classic Atari 2600
system and now I have a real passion to develop my own games due in no
small part to what Nolan Bushnell started back then.

This is fantastic news.  It really feels like things are beginning to happen in our tiny community at last.  Memories of '89 are flooding back as I type!!  We just need ST/Amiga format to ressurect itself now!!

Seriously KennyR...if you read sarcasm into my statement...don't.  I have followed Nolan Bushnell for a long time, I was quite serious about that.

My family bought a PONG machine, before we bought an Atari VCS...whether that was the same Pong Nolan did, or the many clones, I don't know.

But I definately became aware of Nolan's career, and was a big fan.

Am I misinformed?  Oh probably...you see, from my limited perspective, I can only see the great successes and spectacular failures, but I always respected Nolan as a big risk taker, who was one of the pioneers in Silicon Valley.

Nolan pointed out in an interview with a newspaper a while...that Fortune magazine only profiles someone when they are a spectacular success or on their way down in spectacular fashion...his goal was to be profiled in Fortune an odd number of times.

It might be worth noting that Nolan B. worked on the Commodore Amiga CDTV so he is not new to the Amiga.   :-D

From my vantage point in the US, Atari was not crushed by Amiga; the ST for instance was incredibly succesful in music studios and from the start had a wide list of professional MIDI titles that made the choices on the Amiga seem rather insignificant. Only because Atari was losing ground elsewhere (and not really because of Commodore's efforts either), did it eventually lose ground in this niche.

During my many years as an Amiga dealer / consultant / professional user I was also for a few of those a Reseller of Atari, and managed development for a few of music-related projects - couple of which were slated to be brought over to the Amiga. But the publisher of one went under (Intelligent Music), and the other title targeted Sequential Circuits, which later got bought by Yamaha and given to Korg, with the product line discontinued.

Those were some years of shakeups in the industry!

This is excellent but I don't see how "Amiga" is included in any of this--besides the history. MorphOS is your current link back to the Amiga community and I don't see it being used in these new market opportunities. What plans do you have for pushing MorphOS forward and onward? I think MorphOS is what the Amiga community (at least parts of it) wants to move forward.

Get this into your heads. Nolan Bushnell has had nothing to do with Atari since he sold his shares in the late 70's and left Atari. The Atari brandname has since been through various hands including Time Warner, Jack Tramiel, Hasbro and, most recently, Infogrames. And anyone who thinks Infogrames would waste a perfectly good brandname on a two bit outfit like Genesi are deluding themselves. But hey... let's face it... that won't stop this warped party of prize pillocks from attempting to immorally cash in on yet another companies brandname ;-)

You assume that one has something to do with the other.  If the Atari name would have been used, it would have been licensed from it's current owner, Infogrammes, and thereby had nothing to do with Nolan.

So what's Nolan doing here?  He and Bill have known each other for quite awhile, friends so I've been lead to believe since the VISCorp days.  (Yes, Nolan worked for VISCorp as well)  Nolan's current enterprise would benefit from the products Genesi are delivering.  So announcing such a partnership only makes sence, and adds to the press and stature of Genesi, which assists them in selling more motherboards to people outside of the classic Amiga community.  In short, it grows our community, and that is the best thing that I've seen in years.

I'm not assuming anything. I'm answering those people who have already made erronous posts in this thread thinking the Nolan link means Genesi has rights to use the Atari name.

Let's face it. It ain't gonna happen. The current Atari want the name for a reason and that doesn't include promoting some second rate hardware. They want it purely to market games into an already well established market.
