SCO is preparing to sue Novell due to their claim that SCO's case is invalid.

"SCO Group executives said Friday that the company's copyright dispute with Novell doesn't affect its legal campaign against Linux, but the issue may result in a lawsuit, anyway."

If someone tells me that there will be a story more pathetic and laughable than what's going on in Amiga land, I'd never believe him. Now look...

Today the next freighter departs for the neighbouring solar system. I may buy a ticket...

Its clear that they see Linux as competition they cannot handle any other way ( like trying to be better ) and the reason they are delaying releasing any evidence is a clear employment of FUD. Whip up the fear, what will most conservative IT managers do? Start pulling together an alternative plan and budgeting for alternatives like SCO etc. Then in a months time when the "evidence" is shown to a selected "trusted journalists" ( direct quote ) then the journalists, selected for their technical ineptitude and inability to rid themselves of a pro SCO party line, will report "I can't tell you what I saw but it seems conclusive to me".

Then, by the time it comes to court ( years later ) it will be all have been over for Linux in the industrial/business sector since a year and a half.

Killed by FUD.

It doesn't matter whether they are proven right or wrong, what matters is what the account managers at the 1000+ places they are warning decide the risk is.

A very very sad day, and people are just laughing it off and calling SCO idiots. They are far from idiots, they may and are probably incorrect in their claims but they are clever enough to know it does not matter.
Hate figure.

Agreed, up to a point. However, it's a dangerous game they play, because their product is no longer competitive and it only takes one major company to counter-sue them to take them to the cleaners.

What this is really about is share value. They're hoping to cash in before their scam is exposed for the FUD it really is. And exposed it will be, long before it gets to court. They may well be demanding that everyone sign non-disclosure agreements, but you must remember that the code they will show is ALREADY in the public domain, so I'd be very surprised if that info wasn't leaked to the public very quickly indeed.

Furthermore, Novell entering the fray counts quite a bit. Corporations who might be considering bowing to pressure and dropping Linux will be thinking twice about investing in SCO as an alternative, seeing how precarious the position of that company is right now.

Well, I can't comment on the specifics of the SCO vs IBM case, although most of SCO's claims against Linux are bogus, but I do happen to know that at least some of the claims made by that company in our community were justified. Of course, other claims I've heard from them were far less substantial.
