What would you like AMIGA OS4/xx to have out of necessity
« on: October 03, 2003, 03:02:02 AM »
After everyhing is taken into account, the one thing I really would like to see is

AMIGAOS-Server
Or some other multi client ability.

Fine by me to use 3rd party DNS stuff etc, but security and multi client ability is what I would love to see.

Memeory protection and all the other stuff I can still go witout, but I run Linux and win for the need to have this OS function. Dont get me wrong, I use the AMi for day to day, browse etc but not multiclent.

I wonder if this will ever be planned.

Your thoughts?
It's not the question, that is the problem, it is the problem, that is the question.

well, it's not a huge thing, but a decent mp3 player, replete with visualisations and easy management of playlists, similar to latest versions of WinAMP.

A decent office suite, + a few unique apps that makes OS4 desirable for non-amigans...

Relax, man! It was a joke!

About the browser part, isn't there supposed to come a special, spiced-up version of Ibrowse with OS4? :-?

Reason 2.5, Logic audio and OctaMED all running at the same time (Rewired, MIDI and audio linked) without latency and glitches on a potable/laptop sub £1000 machine, with excelent stability.

That's all it would take for me to switch to AOS4.0.

Simple and effective programming tools.

Standardised APIs for all aspects of the computer: graphics (2D, 3D), audio, input, system (hardware, memory, ...) management.

Stability. (Old Amigas just don't cut it.)

Simple and effective office and internet suite.

Simple and effective productivity tools (music and DVD player, CD/DVD-burning program, paint program, scanning program, ...)

Ports of Unreal Tournament 2003, Civilization (all versions), Diablo II; good implementations of classic card- and boardgames such as backgammon, chess, Monopoly, etc. (Rather like Minesweeper, but a little different.)

Simple price: $500 at most.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

I would want good support for DVD/SVCD/Avi etc and a good browser (Gecko based maybe?). And some nice client for SSH would be a must have.

OS4 on the Aone-lite with the above would make a nice box for a home entertainment system.

Under AmigaOS 68k, Amithlon, MorphOS you can use SongPlayer. It's the best audio player as I see.
amigadev.free.fr/songplayer/

It features:
- MP3 support
- OggVorbis support
- others format aiff, ...
- CDDA support
- playlist

Visual effect ? to come

Ok, I'm (with a friend) the actual develloper of that soft :-)
