AInc aren't handling things perfectly at all. But neither are they
making a complete mess of things - despite these wild marketing
stunts.

It's sad that people blindy support a company without knowing what
they are and what they do - just following the Amiga name. C'mon, look
deeper than that - you owe yourself, at very least.

AInc are a "no-product" company - they have the Amiga name, and not
much else (ignoring, for the moment, the DE). Hyperion are doing OS4,
Eyetech the A1. Where is AInc's role here, except to harvest dollars
from the Amiga name and make up some nice new optimistic targets for
the future?

I don't support AInc out out of some blind loyalty - and I'm not
"full of it" - though maybe some of your heroes are. I support AInc
because their failure would be the straw that broke the camel's back,
and would mean the end of the Amiga as we know it.

Jeeze, I never thought I'd hear myself talking like this. Maybe Kronos
and Seehund are right after all. Help! ;-)

@ Valan
Yes, it is laughable. It was supposed to be a promotion, not a
wholesale. It's a bit like Hitler in 1945 saying to the Allies, "Ok,
you beat me. Best out of three?"

Amiga Inc does own the Amiga OS.  They have contracted out the update to 4.0, but that does not mean that they have given up the legal ownership of the product.

The details of the contract between Hyperion and Amiga were benificial to both parties.

Amiga is  NOT a no product company.  They own the AmgiaDE (which none of us outsiders have seen) and AmigaOS (All of them).

Amiga - Resistance was Futile! :-(

I didn't say the didn't own the OS. They certainly do. What I said
that they don't develop it themselves, but get a 3rd party to. This is
all legal and above board, but what particularly do AInc give us
themselves, apart from a optimistically bittersweet direction? They
manage. They don't manage superbly, but they don't suck either. If
they try to con us, jolt them out of it. Don't follow them
blindly: that's all I'm saying to the others.

As for the DE, I intentionally ignored it because I know very little
about it. It seems to be making a loss, however, and it's of little or
no interest to the average Amiga user.

Not a no product company?!   DE belongs to Toa not that anyone can be bothered with it.........and thats it.

The amiga IP was bought by them but they have not done anything themselves have they. Third parties are working hard to progress the OS and get it running on up-to-date hardware.

Apart from owing the Amiga IP, wasting time with DE, and not doing anything for the OS what have they ever done for us?    (Education...the viaduct...law and order ;-) )

It does shame me to think of Amiga Inc this way, through the years I have clung on to the hope that the miggy could return but how these lot are mis-handling things is very upsetting.

Give us $50 guv

So you're getting personal and calling me blind now?

How the f*ck would you know if I'm blind or not eh ?

You define your statements as fact, when it is obvious they are a very pessimistic perspective.  How at the end of it can you even dare to claim you still support amiga?  Do you even know what it means to support amiga?

Go buy a PC, because I'll be f*cked if I'm going to live in a community where the 'support' for amiga is of your flavour...........................

A very centric viewpoint.

It’s a good idea for any business to have multiple revenue streams.

I'm not getting personal, but maybe you are. Look deeper into these things - being open minded is *never* a bad thing. Don't unquestioningly follow *any* company, whether it has the Amiga name or not - because companies are out to make money, and they love people like that. Easy money.

As for the facts, here are the three main ones, in all their brutal glory:

Amiga Inc. have little or more probably no Amiga coders of their own. Why do I think this? Because they leased OS4 out to a 3rd party, a games company no less. I'm not questioning Hyperion's abilities of course, but just look at that.

Amiga Inc. have little or no engineers. They can't build boards themslves, or even design them. Compare that to their competitor, bplan, who can do both.

Amiga Inc. are short on cash. Why do I think this? Because they want the money up front. Give me another good reason for their coupons promotion.

Supporting the Amiga and the Amiga community does not necessarily mean supporting Amiga Inc. They're just a company with a name. I choose to support them because, as I said, if they go then so does the Amiga's last chance.

Pessimistic, me? No way. Pessimistic would mean I'd already be gone PC/Linux-side, or supporting Amithlon/bplan. Please don't call anyone with an ounce of trepidation as pessimistic. It just looks and sounds dogmatic and over zealous, and does absolutely nothing for our cause.
