"I Am Amiga" promotion extended through July 25,2002.

(20-Jul-2002) At the request of some of the dealers now carrying the "I Am Amiga" promotion and the number of orders still being received through the shopamiga.com site, the deadline to purchase the coupons has been extended through July 25, 2002.

The money they get from the coupons is peanuts.

Hardly. Amiga are responding to some legitimate feedback, and not just from dealers. Amongst other things, this gives more time for dealers and Amiga print magazines to advertise the promotion. The original deadline was arbitrary and far too short.

The extension is exactly what many leading community members have requested, including me. The first draw is over, but to convince more developers to support AmigaOS4 we need more people to join the club.

A figure of 832 people is already fantastic in my opinion.  8-)  As Alan said, the amount of AmigaOnes built during the first consumer production run, will be based on these figures. If you want one, join now or we may end up with a shortage.  :pint:

As i said in the thread about this, the dead line was far to short, it should have been a month or two. People don't always have that sort of money to spare and need time to save up.

And as MetalJoe said, magazines etc need time to print it. Take Total Amiga, they only come out once a quarter, so for them anything less then 3 months means it is pointless to publish it.

Anyway, what I don't understand, why not let it run till the OS4 is (almost) finished? Wouldn't that give a better idea of who wants one? Any time limit is abertary anyway.

I agree. When a set release date is known for AmigaOS  it would be reasonable to start thinking about deadlines for preorders, and if this was about memberships in a club a deadline makes no sense at all. The way it is now it just looks like a way to raise cash fast, and I'm sure that's not the way AI wants people to look at this.

There was also the deadline for ordering a devboard. And then a few weeks later everyone would get their devboard. Well if few here is the same when I say, I like a few bears, then it is correct. :-D

Extending the deadline *again* is ridiculous to the point of being laughable. Ok, it's for an arguably good cause, but what are they going to do if they still don't get the number they want by the 25th? Extend it again?? If they did, I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.

:pint:

I believe that this whole promotion is nothing more than a money grabbing exercise. I cannot blame them in one respect, times must be hard for them considering the effort they spent on DE and only now falling back on what they should have started and concentrated with.

At the start of the promotion it was stated it was for showing the world that Amiga was a sleeping giant and that it could be taken sersly, they introduced the money aspect to give it some weight; after all, jokers will hardly pay $50 just to screw some-ones interest polls.

But the way I see it, if this is nothing more than a poll of interest, why not set the figure to $5 or $10. This would do the same purpose for figures if it weren’t a money-grabbing scheme wouldn’t it? Customers would be far more likely to register their interest if it only meant loosing $10 if Amiga go belly up. Which must be in the back of most people’s minds especially with the current world stock problems

(Don’t get me wrong, I’m no tight git like so many amigans appear to be, but I refuse to throw away $50 to keep a company afloat that sofar has done NOTHING for the Amiga OS apart from letting it go to third party companies to carry the torch for them.)

Hay, if they came out and said:

We are broke, please help us to survive long enough for the A1/OS4 to arrive.

I would donate $100 and not expect to get anything in return.

Tis sad when ppl who are obviously just full of it (an obvious expression) start attacking the Amiga company.   :-(

If you actually cared to remove your pessimism for just one second, I know its a big ask - you would see that they are running things perfect

I know perfection is supposed to be the goal all aim for, but ultimately never achieve, however I cannot in my wildest fantasies see how the current amiga company could be handling this any better.
:hammer:

Thanks to them we have a viable future.

:-D

Now for the response - but I personally don't care, as long as you don't spoil it for the group of us that are appreciative of Amiga INCs work.   :pint:

It's only laughable when there is no demand for the coupon and they still extend the deadline.

As long as the 'Coupons Sold'  number changes daily they should continue it.

AInc aren't handling things perfectly at all. But neither are they
making a complete mess of things - despite these wild marketing
stunts.

It's sad that people blindy support a company without knowing what
they are and what they do - just following the Amiga name. C'mon, look
deeper than that - you owe yourself, at very least.

AInc are a "no-product" company - they have the Amiga name, and not
much else (ignoring, for the moment, the DE). Hyperion are doing OS4,
Eyetech the A1. Where is AInc's role here, except to harvest dollars
from the Amiga name and make up some nice new optimistic targets for
the future?

I don't support AInc out out of some blind loyalty - and I'm not
"full of it" - though maybe some of your heroes are. I support AInc
because their failure would be the straw that broke the camel's back,
and would mean the end of the Amiga as we know it.

Jeeze, I never thought I'd hear myself talking like this. Maybe Kronos
and Seehund are right after all. Help! ;-)

@ Valan
Yes, it is laughable. It was supposed to be a promotion, not a
wholesale. It's a bit like Hitler in 1945 saying to the Allies, "Ok,
you beat me. Best out of three?"
