Those hardware specs are starting to look decidedly last year. What about G5 / USB 2 / 4x AGP etc?

There you are, Adasha.  A big part of the problem is that there hasn't been new Amiga hardware production in over eight years, but perhaps as big a problem is that for a small manufacturing run, trade-offs must be made between the computer employing cutting-edge tech and not costing a fortune.  Clearly all involved are doing the best that they can, and there is the further difficulty of allowing for a fairly generous amound of legacy hardware support.  Remember the uproar in the Mac world when the first iMacs eliminated all legacy hardware ports?  Imagine what would happen if the same course was taken with the A1!  It'd take a nuke going off to surpass the sound of the screams of protest from the die-hard Amigans! :-D

I've yet to hear any prices attached to the A1, so we'll have to see how well they were able to balance all of the above concerns, but if you truly want to see bleeding-edge tech AND an Amiga OS to run them, join me in cross-fingered hope for OS 5!

With the world economy starting to move out of recession...

eh? I thought we were just getting into one

Yep, we are getting out of it, if the slowdown was even enough to technically be called a recession.  It'll take a bit, but the comeback is on (curiously, just as it FINALLY looks like Amiga is coming back.  Coincidence?).

Amiga.  Wish the world could have known.

Uh, I dunno where you are all from, but here in Washington it defidantly feels like a recession, not a "slow down". :-(

oh good, if the recession's ending maybe I'll get my pay rise, so then I can buy an A1 anyway!!! :-)

I'm not fussed about the specs myself -  I'm still using an expanded CD-32 for amiga things - but what will non-amigans thing of it?

Here in south Florida I know quite a few people struggling. Myself, I happen to be fortunate enough to work in a field that has nothing at all to do with tech companies. My job is always pretty secure.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I know several people who are mostly computer illiterate who seem very intrigued by the AmigaOne.
They may not be computer gurus, but they know something's wrong with Windows when the BSOD pops up every other minute.

I don't know any such people personally, but I see them all the time on Amiga news sites and forums...

Just kidding! ;)
Well, not entirely. It's just another PPC board for flux' sake, but some people run around blinded by euphoria like it's a miracle which Eyetech designed in their Olympian abode, and in their great mercy they decided to deliver it to "the community". It's all good, but I wish some people would stop acting as if we're seeing the Second Coming of Miner/Christ.
What's really intriguing, IMHO, is that an updated Amiga OS is coming our way, and it will run on PPC mobos.

Maybe it\\\'s still possible to save AmigaOS  :rtfm:......
