Hey Piru, wanna try to compromise my network?

I could always take a quick peek if you like. That wouldn't be anything like full audit, however.

Dude!  Best. Job. Ever.

I'm 34 1/2, married, 1 child.  I work for a Norwegian company that specializes in microwave communication.  According to my card I'm a "senior embedded software engineer", but I do lots of different things at work.  Some server administration, customer visits, electronics, and of course lots of programming in C and assembly.

My spare time (outside family time) is dedicated to the demoscene, mostly classic Amiga, but also on other exotic platforms (not PC).  I'm also getting aquinted with OS4.1 which by the way is bloody GREAT, and I'm also hooked on arcade machines (thanks to a certain someone in this forum) and I'm doing the finishing touches on my MAME arcade machine these days.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

LOL, well I get stick from the guys in work - there are about 300 people in my job and mine is the oldest car in the car park ;-) I guess it's a sign of the strong economy we've had in the past decade that everyone has pretty new cars. Though I have to say I love it and won't be replacing it in the foreseeable future... There's another 100,000 miles in her yet!!

I work at a school as an IT Technician and webmaster. I also have written and co-written a few custom apps for the school network to get jobs done that need doing.

It's the kind of job where you plod along through the day, doing what you're told to do even if it's a stupid idea... Which it usually is. There's always severe time constraints for the most ridiculous tasks and the way the network is set up is a bit of a nightmare if I'm honest, but that's due to a number of factors, two of which are RM ( http://www.rm.com for details... Not my choice, Network Managers choice and now we're stuck with it ) and money (The head isn't keen on IT.... (WHY?!?!?!)) The biggest one though was having to move the WHOLE server room in less than a week with no money for new cabling... I'm sure anyone who does networking can kind of see why that was a problem...

I'm hoping to get away from the web side of work.. it's really depressing, doing repetitive tasks day after day... an SQL query here, a bit of HTML there... boooooring!

To be honest, if I had more "get up and go" I'd probably look for another job... But I guess I'm just lazy and then complain about it :)

As other people have mentioned I am also into Manga and Anime and do some drawing on the side :)

My current car is a Mazda RX-8, 2004 plate.. I've had it just over a month now and it's a lot of fun :)

I'll shut up now :)
Back to action!

Well, I have to agree with you, my car(s) is the oldest at my work too :-D
My colleagues say that I need to buy a new car "it's much cheaper" but I know I can fix my own car for next to nothing and I know what they pay for getting their cars repaired, about 10 times more than it costs me to keep this old faithful
But, my old golf will keep on going and going and go....

Great thread and it's very interesting to read what everyone is up to. I'm IT support for a transit company, mainly dealing with the Domino database and email administration. I have a degree in music and that would have been my ideal career but I think I am both not good enough and too lazy to do all the gigging and promotion that a career in music requires. I just do it in my spare time for my own ears using my Amigas and it makes me happy. Being IT support has it's nightmare days but overall I think it was the career I am best suited towards  :-)

Ah, an old Golf too :-) Can't beat it! Just thought you (and others) might be interested in this road trip I'm doing in August. The idea is to drive from Holland to the north of Norway in a car worth less than £100. Should be great fun, especially if you can generally fix your car on the side of the road! And it's for charity... Check it out:

We're going in a VW Jetta from 1990 with over 250,000 miles on the clock :-o  :-o

Sorry for the OT there guys...

Interesting thread. I'm a project manager and I run refurbishment and overhaul projects at nuclear power plants in the US and Canada. I'm a mechanical engineer by training. I have been an Amiga enthusiast since 1987 and I currently own three working machines that I use regularly, a micro A1, A3000 & A2500. I dabbled in Amiga programming years ago but don't have the time any more.

Nice thread, again.

About the Amiga.  Not much to say. I owned A500 for a couple of years, I mostly played games because of the age. I fought PCs back in those days. Tried to touch some system/ dev but I eventually got rid of it. I think I'll go Sam ASAP. And then I will definitely do some dev, I think of a spreadsheet app.

What I do.  I try to do some IT. Now I deal with PhD thesis in bioinformatics (protein contact maps), just been working in a wireless/mobile industry as a consultant. Those are my two hottest topics. I also used to work in IT&T in numerous roles, sales engineer, web consultant, systems analyst, dev, helpdesk, also journalist. My education is maths/AI plus some extras, I'll try to go for IP legal stuff this year also.

The trivia stuff. I'm 31, got wife and nearly two-year-old daughter. I live in Warsaw, Poland, which is a capital city - for 13 years now. I come from south-eastern Poland. I plan (and always have) to immigrate to Aussieland approximately in 2-2.5 years because I'm fed up with mentality here but not only, feel kindda alien.

Do not own a dog, I hate them, I like cats, I'll try to get myself a leech as a pet, I used to have a spider.

My hobbies are AMIGA (got back to it in December), also SF (comic books, books like Philip K. Dick, movies).  I also like the old school compting and gaming, also micromusic. I like to walk thru mountains. I am about to quit smoking alas I love beer and whiskey.

EDIT* some more details added
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Software Engineer for a financial institution.  Really only just started, so not much to explain.

Still have my first A500, plus my A1200, two other A500s and a CD-32.  The CD-32 needs the drive motor replaced, and is otherwise working.  Various pieces of kit and nowhere to set them up at the moment.  :-(

Still playing on eUAE, and now play Settlers on the train thanks to UAE4ALL!

I'm hoping to record an album for old-times sake at the end of the year, as well as learning x86-assembler for fun (since I nailed the embedded microprocessor (Freescale) subject in my final year of Uni.).  I'd also like to apply my VLSI intro. to something, but it's early days yet. :-D

A truck driver, 20-> wheelers, and also as a sparetime PC-repairer. Been with computer and consoles, as long as i can remember. The job was my own choise, could have chosen something more related to my hobby, but i've always wanted to be free (free from the marriage as well=divorced, and have 2 wonderfull crownup kids, and 3 grandkids):) Amigas were the computers for my taste, and still are. Born at '62. That's pretty much all, folks :D
