Sooooo what do you do?
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:23:02 PM »
I realize I've spent years and years with you all through all the happy, angsty times on this rollercoaster called Amiga but I/we don't know much about each other.

This thought came after the revelation that bloodline is a member of the band Tan Huaser Gate (clicky his linkys) and, gasp, has an interesting and cool life out side the world of Amiga.

I'll go first I guess.  I'm in a little town called Rexburg in Idaho, USA and am about to graduate in 10 days.  I'll have a degree in English - Creative Writing and all I have to look forawrd to is officer school for six months.  Then, hopfully, I come back home, link up with my national Guard unit and take a break for a bit and run a Lazer Tag facility.

So what about you all?

Dude, I'd loooove to run a Laser Tag facility. Sadly they don't seem to be popular in London.

Currently I am a system administrator but not that keen on this particular job (there's politics and douchebaggery galore).

I have one or two hobbies that might develop into paying activities but at the moment they are unpaid pursuits.

I don't get to use my Amiga much at all anymore since its about 3 states away and I mistakenly sold off the 030 accelerator for it.  But aside from the Amiga, I have a year left to graduate from college and getting my certification in Cisco, but its only a CCNA certification.

I also like car audio related stuff. (Brands like Resonant Engineering, FI car audio, Sundown Audio, Digital Designs, etc....)  And just like bass lol.

Also did ham radios for awhile and then I sold off my HF radio, but hope to pick up on it again in some years.  But for the most part like to spend time with my girlfriend which we have been together for about 3 years now.  I currently reside in hays, KS, but my hometown is Lovelock, Nevada.

I live in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada... married... two kids... and work for a small software company in Toronto as a Technical Business Analyst. My job takes me to a lot of places, mostly in the US but on occasion I do get sent to visit customers in the UK. We have a lot of really cool fortune 500 customers that I have been fortunate enough to work for such as AOL, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Boeing, Harper Collins and Scholastic to name a few. Every project is a new can of worms and a learning experience. Keeps me on my toes.

Well, I do use Amigas to make music! :-) Well, actually on the last Album used E-UAE on my MacBook Pro, as my A1200 was just to bulky to make it into the studio... I think I did use the old A1200 in some of the preproduction demos, and some of that made it into the final recordings... :-D

I do use my amigas as much as I can , it's a nice hobby that becomes serious sometimes when I use it for stuff I'd use a PC for, like online banking (thanks Joerg for OWB!). Currently I'm single, just moved to South Mexico City to a new house after living all my life in appartments and my life is dedicated to Systems Administration (oracle/nformix Databases, Solaris/Linux sys admin). I studied computer science engineering at the "National Politech Institute" in Mexico City. I have a large collection of Amiga/Commodore 8 bit machines and I try to use them as much as I can. :-)

Cheers!

I'm British, but I live in Louisiana, USA and work out of Rio in Brazil for a large American oil company.

I got into the Amiga in the 80s and bought an A2000 with my first paycheque from the British Army.

This will be my last trip to Brazil for a while and I'll be working in Houston until the end of the year.

I am a Golf Course Superintendent. I recently got married. I have used Amiga's since the mid 80's when I moved up from c64. I used the Amiga daily until 97 when I finally gave in and bought a PC. I hadn't touched an amiga in years until I was home at my parents for x-mas 07 and found my 3000T sitting in the attic. I brought it home with and have tinked with it another several other amiga I have bought over the last fews years on a daily basis again.

Ok, you win... that is the awesomest job ever.  On the down side, all I see is Bill Murray, talking with a lisp hunting gophers when I try to imagine what you look like!

but WOW!  About half if not more of us seem to have been in the tech field and at high levels at that!

I used to be the head tech of an on-site comppy repair company for a few years myself, but never got into the network admin. stuff...

I've been into Amigas since I moved on from the C64 way back when... (Gotta admit, the first time I booted it I thought "What the hell have I done???"   )

I ran a BBS for a while then at some stage (I only know it was after Commodore went under, and in disgust) I moved onto PCs.
I pulled my 1200 out of the garage a few years ago and have been re-obsessed ever since!

I'm the Distribution Manager for a newspaper company in Sydney... Although I do have some computer science qualifications, I seem to be one of the few who didn't go into a tech job!

Well, my job is nothing to brag about, so I'll get it out of the way first... I had a job mantaining/updating POS terminals and other assorted PC's, I got laid off after being there 17 years...    Currently, working at a convenience store, part time...
Have always been a bit of a computer nerd, I still have (and use) my Timex Sinclair, C-64's, C-128's, and other oddballs like Mattel Aquarius, Tandy model 4P. I used my first ever tax refund to buy an A500 bundle in about '88, and haven't been right since...
Other hobbies, military history, scale models / trains, Sci-Fi, pretty much anything dealing with medieval history...
I actually have a reproduction 3/4 suit of Pikeman's armour done in  18 ga. steel, but at 150 pounds not including pike, dagger, etc. I don't wear it very often...   ;-)

I am working as information security specialist in a IT service company Tieto. I live in Helsinki, Finland. Basically I audit information systems and applications. In short: I break into computer systems with permission.
