Subway USB installation problem
« on: January 01, 2009, 11:39:51 AM »
Ordered a subway usb for my A1200D from Amigakit. It arrived within a week (extremelly fast considering it's Xmas time and Post Office services are dead slow). So far so good BUT: when i connected the subway to my miggy and installed poseidon v4.2, nothing really happened so i ended up wondering what on earth i should do. Tried to run Trident from Prefs (as suggested in the installation procedure) but all i got was a "Failed to open muimaster.library" message. Obviously i downloaded and tried to install the missing library. Found mui3.8usr.lha on aminet and tried to install it too but no avail again. Has anyone experienced problems like these while trying to install Subway on their systems?

My config is an A1200D, PPC, Bvision, internal cd, hd, 160mb ram...running OS 3.9. Also tried the above on a 3.1 partition but nothing again. I desperately need help as this is the last step that i have to make in order to complete my "all in the original case" project.

You need to install MUI (using the included installer), but I assume you already did that. You also have to make sure that your workbench screen is tall enough to allow opening of the Trident prefs window. 256 pixels is not enough. It should open at 400 pixels or more.

Finally, please RTFM regarding the use of the product.

Installation of MUI and Poseidon is a basic step. Next you need run Trident in Prefs dir one time and in the device section load the subway device. Next step is save the prefs. Poseidon is a great piece of software and Subway of hardware. Tell us the results.

P.S.: don't forget the resolution of WOrkbench that need to be as stated in the previous message from the creator of the software Poseidon.

Install MUI sounds right but where can i download it from? The one i downloaded from aminet just doesn't "work". Is the "3.8usr|" the right one? Besides, i tried the resolution of WB but it keeps popping up the same message, so i suppose that i have to seek the right MUI version. Any help?

I am using the MUI from AMinet version. Only need to rename one file which gives error in the installation. Renames it to the character corresponding to space. This  can sounds strange but without it the install programs fails.

The archive MUI 3.8 Usr is the right one. As jrfjunior pointed out, there might be a problem with some "alien" unarchiving tools that will chock on the "smily icon" file, which consists only of a space character file name. Unarchiving the lha archive with the standard "lha" tool in the shell will work.

Can we call it progress really? New messages:

COPYLIB: Can't open file "  " in line 299
Dos Error Type: Unable to locate a file or drawer

I suspect that it will be sth really not so big that ruins the process but in fact i still have the problem i can't install MUI so won't be installing Subway as a consequence.   :boohoo:  :boohoo:

For OS3.1 you might need to update to the latest installer??

http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/Installer-43_3

Remember to unarchive on the Amiga and not on the PC if you are transferring files over.

I already unarchive on a real amiga. Isn't this version of installer already included in the OS 3.9 i'm using?

After maaaaaaany attempts i still can't see the light either in 3.1 or 3.9. I'm really pissed off that buying a brand new hardware like SUBWAY requires "rocket science knowledge" in order to run for starters  :madashell:  :madashell: At least i seem to be unlucky!!

Of course i'm not saying that it has to do clearly with the hardware part. I said that it should work out of the box for me too but it seems that sth is goiing wrong with installers, MUI and things like these. And of course the fact that it works for you is of no further help for me right now. Maybe you could tell me what you did or what your config is. :-D Thanx anyway   :-)

Time for a fresh installation of AmigaOS?

It sounds to me that you've installed/deleted something which is now affecting installer. It looks like you did it on both your OS3.9 and OS3.1 partitions.

Perhaps a quick look at your startup-sequence, user-startup will show you the problem?

I've installed MUI on OS3.1 countless times without error.

I don't have a Subway, but I have a Deneb.

Try doing an install on a clean 3.x installation and that way you'll at least know that the hardware isn't at fault.

#1.  Copy the MUI archive, the latest INSTALLER command and LHA to some Amiga floppies.

#2.  Install OS3.x

#3.  Copy LHA and INSTALLER into your C draw.

#4.  Unarchive MUI to RAM or a folder and install it.

#5.  Install your Subway software and cross your fingers.
