Is this a flickerfixer? (look at pic)
Its said to be used to connect the amiga to a tv, but you won´t need an adapter for that, so what is this thing?

Only the Amiga 600 and 1200 had TV (RF) output - for other models you need an adaptor - which is what this thing is - it came with the A500.  It's called the A520 and plugs in to the Amiga's 23-pin RGB port.

It's a TV modulator. The A500 used them to display its image on a TV: unlike later Amiga models, the A500 had no inbuilt modulator. It was famous for falling out in the middle of a game and having to be wiggled around before it worked again.

It won't scandouble or flickerfix.

It's what I need for my Amiga 2000 to stop being B&W on my TV... it;s starting to bug me actually, although my eyes stopped hurting when I swtiched to Topaz9 fonts. I think I'll get an A2620 though, and hook up a monitor.

... it's the A520 TV Modulator...

How well do they work? Could you play the old games with this setup?

It converts the video output to RF so you can use a TV instead of a 1084 or similar. The Amiga doesn't actually know it is there, as this is pure analog electronics. So, YES, you can use this to play the old games. In fact, that's about the ONLY thing you can do with it ;-)

Do you have glasses? You will using one of those. Be prepared for either

1. Good (ish) picture and no sound, or just a distorted buzz

Slightly adjust tuner on tv....

2. Warped snowy picture and sound.

My advice :- if your using a TV and an a520 - Hook the audio up to your hifi or whatnot, especially if you have an older TV set.

These are great on all amigas i have used my a500 modulator on an amiga 1500, an  a1200 better than internal modulator and others although i bought a secondhand philips cm8833 mk2 for 8 pound much better for the basic amiga. :-)
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

The A520 Modulator (or Encoder) outputs both an RF signal, and colour composite + audio. With those later a VCR can be connected to the A500 and A2000 variants.

It was in this fashion that I transferred a DVideoIII production from an A2000/060+32mb to tape.

13 years ago I had a Neriki Deskmaster genlock, and a 1mb A500! What you gain on the swings - you loose on the roundabouts! :-(

If only you'd plugged it in..

RGB and audio goes in a at the Amiga end, RF and colour-composite at the other.

Sorry to abuse your topic Imerion, but this reminds me:

I have an Amiga/EURO (SCART) cable, left after A500. Once uppon a time I thought I'll try to use it on my current A1200, but I've found the connector to be quite different (did it change from female to male from A500 to A1200??).
I decided to dig in the A1200 manual and I'm suspecting that pin-mapping didn't really change.

So I'm confused a bit:
Did it really change or I'm just becoming psycho?  ;-)
Did the pin-mapping change? Or at least those used by EURO (SCART)?
Can I use it or I'll burn something?
Is it just simple one-to-one cable with two male connectors?

Thanx guyz
PiR
