Why would I move to MorphOS?

I'ts seems that a lot of people is reality blind or something, ignoring this problems.

Most of us are using Pegasos, so it's hard to see that particular problem. Take our talk for fully supported systems But I don't have any doubts it will be usable on Efika too when the update comes, but the deadline just came too early for it this time.

Umm isn't basicly everyone saying that the Efika version is currently unusable? Just wondering how someone here would have attacked you...

As it currently stands, there is no reason to get MOS now unless you have either PEG I or PEG II.

I have Efika waiting in my self for a possible memory upgrade and after that it will be waiting for MOS update

Why don't you wait for the update that way you don't have to pay for somthing that you can't use. Oh and to test out MOS you don't actually have to register it. It will just slow down after 30 mins or something like that.

As stated in my first post - I don't have the hardware to test it. I'm not going to buy some hardware without testing the OS. And I cant test the OS without the hardware. I wanted opinions on was it worth the punt... from what i've got so far... no it isn't.

Many of the issues have been fixed already. It typically takes some time to test and verify the fixes, however.

Well for the short period of time that I used MOS 2 on my PEG II before I sold it. I'd say it was well worth it, but then again no "Amiga" type system can fully replace your current system. Too much is missing, Java and Flash support for browser to be exact and ofcourse Open Office would be a nice addition, but no Java = no OF etc.

I'm looking to build Efika as a modern retro Amiga experience once the promised update arrives. So that classic games would launch in emulator and everything else would be native. Atleast it will be that for me as long as Mac Mini port gets released. But if you actually get the hardware to run MOS and you don't like it, I don't think you have a hard time selling the hardware further. I have actually always made a little cash back on my "Amiga" investments

I'd say if you have the chance to get a Pegasos, take that chance. A Pegasos with MorphOS is IMO the best "amigaish" system you can get.
Fast, stable, advanced, beautiful.
Anyway, if you like to tinker around, then get an Efika: It's a fun device - you can do nice things with, but it has its issues. The ide controller is slow, the RAM is limited, The usb is 1.1 and the cpu has no L2 cache. *But* if I hadn't one already, I would get one again.
MorphOS current public release has some issues on the Efika (on the Pegasos it is really stable, I have both maschines, the Peg and the Efika). But I am optimistic to see a bug fix release soon.
Indeed the Efika really may not be everyone's cup of tea and if you have concerns you may probably not get satisfied with it.
Best of course is to test it in real life.
My Efika got me some fun already and the EURs spent on MorphOS for it hurted that particular day, but was forgotten the next day already. It's a nice silent device from which for example I can tye amiga.org comments while lying comfortable in my bed...

If you don't like to/cannot spend some currency on exotic and dedicated hw, you'll either have to stick to AROS and/or UAE (which can be quite some fun too), or have to wait until MorphOS for the Mac Mini will be available.

Whaat? Pegasos replaced my "current" system very well, thank you Pegasos is now my main platform, which was earlier souped up A1200.

I haven't seen any real use for Java or Flash in browsers... mostly stupid games or ads. Actually I avoid installing them on PC's too when I have to use them. OpenOffice works fine without Java too, at least on Windows. For occasional needs for better browsers I can have Linux on my Peg.

Targhan's crazy list of things you wouldn't want to run on your MorphOS system, but that still works!  Indeed, a list to fear, because nobody in their right mind would actually use this software. In fact, it has even drawn a "How is that working, and where did you find it?" from O. Wagner...  Two years ago...  

1. Voyager 1.0 (yes, I found it.  Amazingly it works.)
2. AMosaic 1.2
3. AMosaic 2.x (... dunno why I had two amosaiacs)
3. BlacksEditor
4. AMTalk
5. MetalWeb (for about 5 minutes, which is 2 minutes longer than on my A1200... This app was just horrid.)

Seriously, it's a very good, and fast, replacement for a classic system.  However, much like both Amithlon and OS4, there is no custom AGA, OCS, or ECS chipsets--thus games will still require an emulator (euae).  Methinks it goes with the territory.

Piru, do you know if this video card would be a good/best choice for MorphOS2.1 on the EFIKA?

I am ready to buy and build my own MorphOS computer now.   :-D
