My hard disk does work ... I can see different partitions without any problems. The problem is there is a partition that workbench cannot read. This is the partition where I had my games saved (which makes it very likely to get corrupted since I think I only made use of that partition).

When I insert a floppy in my Amiga I always get 'DF0:????'. I do not get 'PC0:????'. Also typing 'mount PC0' gives me an error. I have an A500+ with Workbench 2.04 installed on it. The disk I inserted seemed to work fine on the PC. However when I put scotch and inserted on the PC I could not understand how to make it format at 720k.

Sim085: where (geographically) are you? I'm sure one of us on here can send you a bootable floppy containing XFS or FAT95 if your Amiga's instance of CrossDOS won't play nicely.

Thanks A4000_Mad for the screen shot. That helped me a lot and I did manage to format the disk. Now how do I move the DiskSalv11_32.lha to the disk. Is it just a matter of saving the .lha file in the disk. Also when I put the disk in Amiga I still get DF0:???? ... is this normal?#

Sorry for the stupid questions, never did this befor.

I live in Malta; However I do not mind doing all this :) at least I am learning out of all this.

Yes, the plan would now be to put the DiskSalv11_32.lha file onto the floppy and take it to the Amiga. You would then use a program such as lha in the Amiga to unpack the DiskSalv11_32.lha using a certain command which we can come back to later (lha will probably need to be downloaded with your PC and taken to the Amiga on the floppy as well unless it is already present in the C drawer of your Workbench. You can check if it is there with your Directory Opus).

Your next problem appears to be getting the Amiga to read the PC formatted floppy. In Workbench 3.0 there is an icon called PC0 inside a drawer called DOSDrivers which is inside a drawer called Storage. i.e. Workbench:Storage/DOSDrivers

After inserting the PC floppy and double clicking on PC0 an additional icon would appear for the PC floppy together with one called DF0:???

However, I don't think the icon PC0 is present in your Workbench 2.04. Can you check this?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I moved the lha file on the disk. I then went to Workbench:Storage/DOSDrivers. I inserted the disk and clicked on the PC0 icon. When I did this I got the following error.

C:Mount
Program failed (error #80000004)
Wait for disk activity to finish

and I have the option to either 'suspend' or 'reboot'.

I thought this could be because of some version problem. I therefore inserted the storage disk of workbench 3.1 and it gave me the same error :(

Any ideas?

Should I maybe not boot from the hard drive?

Hmmm..... Other files to check for are CrossDOSFilesystem in the L drawer of Workbench (Workbench:L) and I believe mfm.device in Workbench:Devs

Yes, it's worth checking that the files are present on your Workbench floppy disks and booting from them. If PC0 is not present on the Workbench disk, try looking on the Extras disk (it's been a while since I've used 2.04)

PC0 is present on my workbench. However when I click it I get the error mentioned previously. I will check for the other files. However without PC0 working I can't go forward right?

I think it's probably a case that PC0 cannot work without the other files being present.

Hi,

At first I could not see these files when opening the directory from workbench. However I then opened directory opus and I found the two files you mentioned in their place. So can't understand why PC0 is not working! :(

Workbench has hidden files as with windoze. To see them after opening a drawer you need to hold down the right mouse button, go to the top of the Workbench screen and under the heading 'Window' select 'Show' and then 'All files'. They should then appear. But DirectoryOpus is far quicker for checking that files are present and moving them around etc.

I was just busy grabbing the script of PC0 as seen in my Directory Opus:-

/* $VER: PC0 40.1 (31.8.93)
 *
 * CrossDOS file system entry
 *
 * This file enables CrossDOS on the built-in floppy drive normally
 * referred to as DF0:. PC1 does the same for DF1. By creating new versions
 * of this file and changing the Unit line to use other numbers, you can
 * make CrossDOS available on other devices. For example, changing the value
 * of Unit to 2 would create a mount file that would enable CrossDOS on DF2.
 */

FileSystem  = L:CrossDosFileSystem
Device      = mfm.device
Flags    = 1
Surfaces = 2
SectorsPerTrack   = 9
SectorSize  = 512
Reserved = 1
Interleave  = 0
LowCyl      = 0
HighCyl     = 79
Buffers     = 5
BufMemType  = 0
StackSize   = 600
Priority = 10
GlobVec     = -1
DosType     = 0x4D534400

/* The Unit field is controlled by tooltypes in the PC0 icon.
 *
 * Unit     = 0
 */

You can see that we were on the right track by the 11th line FileSystem = L:CrossDosFilesystem and the 12th line Device = mfm.device

Unfortunately this will probably have to be my last post tonight and we are a bit stuck. As per the error report you got earlier, I wonder if there is a fault with your file called Mount which should be in Workbench:C

You could try using DirectoryOpus to copy it in again overwriting the existing one. Prehaps even putting in the version from a Workbench 3.1 disk.

Guess you'll find this in the morning.

I did as you suggested, copied the mount file from the Workbench 3.1 disk to the Workbench installed on the drive. After that I could see the contents on the disk :-) :-)

I am going to click salvage now ...

Hello again, got back from work a few hours ago, and figured I'd check this thread (since I checked the notification option and got a ton of e-mail about it :-D) Nce to see everything got hammered out, and I hope disksalv works for you! I would have checked earlier, but my wife found "I want a hippopotomus for christmas" on youtube, and I spent 2 hours using the latest getvideo script on Aminet and FFMPEG to convert it into .mp3 so she can play it for my daughter. I'm guessing thats 2 hours I'll soon regret spending.... Just wanted to mention how great it is to see Amiga users unite and support each other like this. :-D Anyway, I've been to Valletta, Malta in 2001, had a blast there. Still the party island I (barely) remember it as?
