If you're going to run 3.0 ROMs, why not just run OS 1.1?
The only reason to sun 3.1 ROMs and newer OS is to benefit from all of the new (better) routines. If you're going too run old stuff, go all the way...

Now that's just silly.

OS 3.0 can do a whole lot of things that OS 2.0 couldn't, and OS 2.0 can do alot of things 1.x couldn't.

Sure, the newer the OS, the newer the software you can run, but saying 3.0 ROMS are useless doesn't make sense.

That said, I'd like to upgrade my 4000's ROMs from 3.0 to 3.1.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

Hmmm I would definitely have to say Classic WB just for the ease of installing everything that you would really need.  I installed it on my A1200 and haven`t looked back since.

I think I'm definitely going for classicwb. I just tried setting up a bare bones system in winuae to run whdload, and struggled to work out how to get an unzipping tool to work. lha was fine, but I tried wizarc, which thought all my archives were corrupt, and dopus, I couldn't actually get to show the archiving buttons.
