Bought my first A500 in 1987 at the Compucenter in St. Vital mall, here in Winnipeg Canada. The store no longer exists, but I do remember fondly going to the store once a week to check out the computers in the display. The Amiga stood out because they had a demo of Accolda's Test Drive running next to some crappy black and white Mac. Ah, those were the days.

I believe that I also bought my A1200 from there, but the A4000/040 (with CV64 and some video capture card) was bought of eBay. Sold the A1200 years ago to some dude here in town, but I still have the A500 & A4000.

The first Amiga, an A500, in the house, bought by my father, came from dutch retail-chain V&D.

The first I bought myself was a brandnew Amiga 3000. I got it through mail-order. If I remember correctly it was bought from CSV Riegert in Germany (they still exist but have no Amiga business). I had my parents sent Eurocheques to pay for the machine :-).

The other machines I ever owned were used ones fetched thru online sales or even fair-trades.
Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

I worked all summer at age 15 to save up $600 for an A500 I bought out of AmigaWorld.  It took another month or so to save up the cash for the 1084S (my parents paid half for the monitor).  Can you imagine the torture I went through during that month having a new A500 sitting in a box at my house with nothing to hook it up to?  This was a 1.2 machine before they came with the A520s.

Great memories, indeed.

I bought the December 1992 edition of Amiga Shopper (which I still have) and used it to figure out the package I wanted, and to persuade my parents to part with their cash!

They bought me the A1200 pack with Zool, Pinball Dreams, Striker and Transwrite for Christmas in 1992. We got it from Hobbyte, an English Amiga stockist.

My first upgrade was a 266MB 2.5" HD in 1993, then in 1995 I got a Blizzard 1230 IV with 16 MB RAM for Christmas (new from Power Computing I think).

A couple of years ago I picked up a Fast ATA controller with 3.1 ROMs, a Blizzard 1260 with 32MB RAM, a Surf Squirrel with CD Rom Drive, a 2.1 GB HD and a spare A1200, all for £60 (yes... that's £60...). Thanks to Amibench for that one!

The most recent update was a MAS player - good piece of kit too.

I'm thinking about getting an Indivision Scandoubler - but then I doubt my wife will be too happy!

Cheers,
AndyC

Mail order from Silica Systems.

It was the A1200 Sleepwalker pack, and it came with the silica bundle that included Zool, Transwrite, Photon Paint and GFA Basic.

Wow that brings back memories.

Bought my first A500 in a small computer shop in the King's Road, Hammersmith in 1990; cost was £399. Decided I wanted an Amiga after going round to a mates house after the pub and watched him trying to play Gods while drunk!

My first computer was a VIC 20 bought in Glasgow in 1982, was a present from my parents.

I got mine in june 1988, to a local retailer, it was the first amiga to ever reach my town (mondolfo in italy); i am pretty sure because i was bringing him software to use and he got it in november 1987, i started buying software even before to buy the amiga: i already decided to get one when possible!

It was having workbench 1.2 and already had some software such as deluxe paint and audiomaster, plus a couple of games such as test drive and xenon 1. Following somebody gave me a copy of sonix and i started to do some music:)

Odd,I thought the rf modulator came standard with the 500.

Anyway, bought my first Amiga A500 in the spring of 1991 or1992 from the Sears franchise store in Aurora,Indiana.Someone had ordered it but never picked it up so the store owner had it on his "specials" table.Sears had it at a catalog price of $700 but Roy sold it to me for $199 as it had been in inventory too long. Hooked it up to a 19 inch color TV/monitor combo bought ($150 at clearance, naturally) at the Kroger grocery chain.Got a 512 memory and clock trapdoor card from some mailorder company for about $69.And later that summer a 1200 baud Amiga modem for $9.99 at the Swallen's  in Cincinnati,Ohio.
Test Drive,Tetris, and Amigaterm were most used.
   Still have the A500 .

I unwrapped my 1st Commodore Vic 20 from under the x-mas tree in 1981. The following year I had a c64 under the tree. Next came the c128. Then around the start of the school year in 1985 my father bought an Amiga 1000 from One Byte Computers in Uncasville, CT. By x-mas 1986 he was back at One Byte and bought himself an Amiga 2000 and me MY OWN (not shared with him or my brother) Amiga 500. Now I had MY OWN Computer in my room I started calling local bbs. I worked the entire summer of 87 to save for a US Robotics 9600 HST modem (something like $800 bucks). Needless to say there were not many local boards with HST capability so next came the long distance calls. After a few months of these I figured it was time to put up my own BBS. The board ran on the 500 for about a year. At that point my father agreed to split the cost with me for my own 2000. I only had about 1/4 of the money but promised I would pay him back the rest. (never happened) At this point life was great. I had a high speed modem so the board quickly grew and I had an endless supply of games for the 500. In 1991 I mail ordered (and paid for myself) my final Amiga a 3000T. I used it happily until 97 when I finally gave in and bought a PC. Somewhere along the line I gave away the 500 and sold the 2000 for pennies but the 3000T sat in my parents attic until last x-mas. I was home and saw her sitting there and with the help of everyone here she back up and running better than ever.

After saving up enough money from part time jobs, I bought my first Amiga (an A500) from a dealer booth at the World of Commodore in the Toronto International Centre in 1988!  I think another dealer was blowing out Supra 2400 baud external modems there for $99 as well, so I bought one (that was fast for 1988)!

First Amiga *I* owned is my A2000. Got it at a large flea market here for $20. Didn't use it much since it I didn't get a monitor with it, and the composite video out on it is pretty much a joke.

About a year later I happened to be talking to an acquaintance who said he had an A4000D. Bought it for like $40 or something. He new not what he had. :-D

My A500 I borrowed from another acquaintance. He had me clean it up for him after he'd neglected it (I think he spilled bong water in it or something, what a mess!). So I gave it back and told him if I ever saw it like that again I'd take it away from him. I borrowed it from him a few months later to test out some A1200 motherboards I bought off eBay (DOAs). Sure enough it was jacked up again. A month later he moved away, and never got it back.

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

Hmmm bought my A1k/1080 about 1986 from Micromart in Winnipeg, where I was working at the time. That was when the initial big price drop from $2995 to $1995 Cdn hit.
