My dad bought our A1000 from Amigo Business Computers, East Northport, NY (Long Island) in spring of 1986, iirc.  (with the 512k expansion card, of course)

Along with a 1080 monitor.  I believe we got the A1010 floppy drive some time later.

It came with Kickstart/Workbench 1.0, and ABasic.  We also got Deluxe Paint 1 with it as well, which was on a 1.1 disk,
so it didn't actually work until they figured out that we needed the 1.1 Kickstart disk too. hehe.

We didn't get a pack of floppies for a week or so.  I remember my parents went out for the evening, and I drew a picture in DPaint, but was unable to save it since we didn't
have any floppies, so I left the computer on until they got home to show it to them. :)

At that time I was in Newark NJ and they had and still have a massive Portuguese and Brazilian community. The Brazilians loved the Amiga becuase it was ok to bring it back to Brazil as the A500 was under a certain allocated value of $300 (I think) that you can take into Brazil and get through customs OK. Dudes would take the A500, a girlfriend would take a hard drive attachment, another pall would take the ram, floppy, etc. Pretty funny.

Hehehe. I know some guys who did that at that time. The right value is US$500. Some people even took the risk to hand carry things over that limit and bet they would not be stoped at customs. Quite cool.

Paraguai is near enough for a (long) bus trip, so it was the main source of Amigas and Macs to Brasil.

Commodore started producing A1200's, A600's and some CD32 in the last days using a company called PCI to do it. That happend in the short time between dropping the law and Commodore's death

My 1084S is "made in Brasil" at PCI. I've used my A1200 with a television for some time.

I got my A2000 from one of the comapnies that used to advertise in Commodore User back in 86 or early '87.  I was stationed in Colchester, UK at the time and a whopping big security truck delivered it to the barracks and pissed the RSM off as they wouldn't let him look inside the box unless I OKed it.  It came with a A1081 monitor which I still use.

I think that shop where Motorollin's dad got his Amiga is where I used to by my original software (There was only one place in Colchester at that time that stocked Amiga software and they sold A500s).
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Hi,

I got my first A1200 with a 120 Meg internal Hard Drive in Germany at the Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC) at RAF Bruggen.

My Christmas presant for 1993, the mother board is still running in an EyeTech Tower with a Blizzard/1240/40/SCSI Card/CD Rom/Zip 100 Drive/Catweasel with Sony High Density Floppy Drive/Flatbed Scanner and Epson C64 Printer.

Kind Regards, Michael

I think I got my first A500 from a mail order company that I saw an ad for in an Amiga magazine if I remember correctly. There used to be a great company called TENEX I think that put out a wonderful Amiga merchandise catalog, I bought tons of games and software from them.
A1000, A500, A600, A1200, CDTV, A2000, A4000 Towered, SamFlex 800mhz,

I bought my first A1000 from someone I never met and never saw, through a friend of mine who had an A2000, which was the first Amiga I got to see in person.  I gave him the money and he bought my A1000 from a friend of his and delivered it to me a few days later.  Those early years really were the "Good old Days"!

Makes me wonder what it would take to ever get that feeling again?  Maybe when I get my first flying car or I win a trip to fly to another country and it just happens to have a short visit into low Earth orbit as an incentive for flying with ZeroG Airlines.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I got mine as a young pup for my birthday, cost a whole 400pounds from dixons,, remember the suitcase type box and taking in on the bus with me, very obvious, with AMIGA written on side of box, had to sell my cpc464 in order to finance it. With it were f18, batman deluxe paint 2 and new zealand story.. f18 way totally amazing back then, many all nighters with that one.

Ahh, mine had F29 retaliator (blew my Dad's mind when he saw that in action!), Rainbow Islands, Escape from the planet of the Robot Monsters (RSI inducer), (iirc) Batman, the Caped Crusader (crap) and D-Paint2.

That machine was amazing - it could do most of the stuff my Dad's £2000 PC could, with better graphics and sound. Kindwords for Word Processing was a bit lacking compared to Aldus Pagemaker though.. and my Dad's PC had a 20MB hard drive!
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

Got mine in Crotone at the wonderful "Computer House" shop, in 1989, if i recall well. I remember when i see for the firt time the water surrounding englang in Defender Of The Crown, then in Port Of Calls: i've drooled over the desk. When i saw the burning fire in DOTC, and the shadow of the heroes after the siege....

sigh....

I want another amiga.....

But wait.... :)
It\\\'s time for the Amiga to come back

Our neighbours had an Amiga 500 and they allowed me to come and use it from time to time. They had managed to buy one on a subsidized purchase programme from their employer (Dutch local government) in '87 I guess.
Sometime during '88 I managed to convince my parents that I just had to have a computer for school projects. Got one second-hand for the princely sum of 1500 guilders.
Ironically, my school-grades were falling sharply from then on.

Good memories of Marble Madness, Defender of the Crown, Ports of Call, drawing girl nudie pictures in DPaint...

My first Amiga was an A1200HD40 that I got from a local shop in Cedar Falls, Iowa called "Software and More" at their going out of business sale.  It had been their display model so I got it for $650 .  That was the best computer I ever owned.  You wouldn't believe how much stuff I crammed onto that 40 meg hard drive!

I still have it and it still works but unfortunately I can't afford to upgrade it.  It has a Blizzard 1230 and SCSI interface that I bought when I took a class about Unix and C/C++ programming in '97 (although I never did buy and install NetBSD on it as I had planned).  I also put AmigaOS 3.9 on it as soon as it came out.

Bought it from a small independent computer store in Glasgow, Scotland in 1989.  Comcal was the name and it still exists!

Bought a vanilla A500, with no extras.  Me and my two brothers all chipped in and couldn't afford anything else.  They threw in a copy of Photon Paint.   :-)

Over time we got a star LC10 colour dot matrix printer.  1/2Mb memory upgrade and external floppy.

Happy times. :-)

Bought my first A500 in 1987 at the Compucenter in St. Vital mall, here in Winnipeg Canada. The store no longer exists, but I do remember fondly going to the store once a week to check out the computers in the display. The Amiga stood out because they had a demo of Accolda's Test Drive running next to some crappy black and white Mac. Ah, those were the days.

I believe that I also bought my A1200 from there, but the A4000/040 (with CV64 and some video capture card) was bought of eBay. Sold the A1200 years ago to some dude here in town, but I still have the A500 & A4000.
