Oirish :-)

You what?

Feel free to listen to Voices of A.org for inspiration :-)

Huh?  Why is that not a valid response?  A real, natural Irish accent (none of this fake stereotype, leprechaun - "Ye wouldn't be stealing me pot 'o gold" nonsense) is dead sexy.

I couldn't figure out what Oirish meant... Doh! I realised later (see the body parts thread for a break down of the accents thread results) and included it :-)

I would have to say Irish is one of my least favorite (I'm not keen on Italian and Spanish either... I find monotonic languages more pleasing), it sounds too much like a comedy voice :-D

Quote

Most European accents sound like the speakers have some sort of phlem problem.  I don't get why people find them to sexy.

Oddly I agree, the Slavic accents are rather off putting... I expect you don't hear the difference, but German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian all sound much nicer that Polish, Russian etc... to my ears :-)

I don't think it's just about pronunciation, it's also the form of the sentences, there are very specific structures in German (like separable prefixes for example) that give the sound of the language a very pleasant feel..

Quote

German accents are the least sexy of all (sorry Bloodline).

No need to apologise, this is a great discussion!

Again I'm not talking about about dodgy stereotypes, but real accents.  I don't know if it varies greatly anywhere else, but in my personal experience, Berlin and Köln accents (which sound the same to me) are horrible - harsh pronunciation, yet whiney at the same time.

Well yes, Standard German and perhaps the Hamburg accents are very nice... but I find someone from Berlin very attractive... so that gives a very positive reinforcement  to me :-)

Quote

That is both in their native tongue and in English.

In English, the German accent sounds sounds cute... In in German it sounds... Geil :-)

Quote

Hot German women should be seen and not heard :-)

(A forget the German part, lets go generic here :-D)

Hahahahahaha :-D

Eh?! This is something foreigners normally cannot figure out, but it didn't take me too long to figure out. :-?

Indeed, indeed! It feels more, say, logic.

I was thinking too hard... I often overlook the obvious and attempt to find a deeper meaning...

Yes, I agree. My natural scientist/engineer nature tends to draw me to regular patterns and structures... also German has a lot of Zee and  Vee sounds ("Sie" und "Wie" auf Deutsch) that I really like!

Hmyes, often, if you don't understand it, pronouncing the word out loud is a way to understand it. Also for other (European) languages.

That's very true... I saw a word "Eingesteckt"... which at first glance was meaningless to me... then I read it out "ein" "ge" "steckt".. and realised it was the past participle of "einstecken"... :-)

I'm lucky to get to practice German with Speel, unlike with my German Friends, his German isn't too difficult for me to understand :-)

I've checked the TOS and there is nothing forbidding the use of German here... but apparently toilet humour is forbidden!!! :-o I think half my posts have actually violated the TOS of this site!!!

I noticed it with Norwegian/Swedish. Also, in Luxembourg it was not hard to communicate, in all kinds of western European languages (Dutch, German, French, English, if you don't know a word in one language, try another language  )

"G" is a bit hard for me :-(
