« on: May 27, 2008, 03:50:12 AM »
Well, it's not an Amiga but some might be interested. I put this up for sale today:

EDIT:
Corrected the link to reflect re-listed item.

Ridiculous prices. They are not extremely rare. I used to buy these Falcons from german eBay for under 100€ while I still lived in Canada. Shipping was not that bad either. I've had 7 Falcons in a span of 5 years. I'm out of the Atari scene now though.

Well, I doubt this one will go for 100 euros.  I am not interested in the Atari scene, but can still appreciate collector quality items.  It is ultra clean and complete.  Someone will want it at over your 100 euros price I think.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I guess it will sell for more than the normal price of a second hand Falcon as it's in good state... so I bet it will reach more than 250€ easily :-)

250€ ? why?
Any Amigan with functionality in mind would be better off spending around 100€ getting a Blizz 1230IV - much faster @ 50mhz - and another 50€ for an A1200 + hdd (+ midi?) ...

Well, what an Atarian collector is willing to pay for is another story.

Is it an NTSC or PAL falcon?

Does it have a 220v/50Hz compatible PSU?

Falcons does both NTSC and PAL by default. However, if it's an American Falcy then you most likely need a new PSU for it.

If we used any logic, we would never pay 100€ for a crap 50Mhz cpu. And an amigan with functionality in mind would buy an Efika instead of that.

FYI you can play MP3 at 16bit and full quality with Atari Falcon's DSP (you may have to make a small change so it outputs sound at 44Khz instead of 48Khz so it doesn't have to resample). Try to do that with a Blizzard030.

An Amigan would buy a Falcon because it's a great demoscene machine :-)

Atari OS sucks, but Atari demos are great :-)

You also have 060 Atari Falcon accelerators much faster than Amiga accelerators.

Just check out Starstruk running on a 060/66Mhz Atari Falcon:

I would love if Atari Falcon could run AROS m68k...

I had to pull the auction because the reserve price was wrong. I'll re-list later today.

@ Crumb,
Thanks for elucidating the point, and introducing to me the other retro world.... I didn't realize the Atari's strength in demo scene, for i've never used an Atari before.

@ Gaiyan
Hi Joshua, having owned many Falcons in the past, perhaps you can share with us how you like the atari and why you left it. And also how you like the amiga now ;-) otherwise you wouldn't have kept coming back to amiga.org ?

One think I noticed about 68000-based Macs is the use of L2 cache, while I am not aware of any Amiga accelerator which did this.  Do Falcon accelerators have L2 cache?

For that matter, why wouldn't Amiga accelerators have L2 cache?
