WTF does the OS matter?

If you get off on using an OS then you are a freak.

Content is all that matters! Applications. And I'm not talking about lame homebrew posing as content I am talking about quality commercial applications & games.

Gem (TOS GUI) is fine for the few moments you use it to launch your Falcon applications.

Well a Falcon with 68k AROS would be able to run all my OS legal Amiga software :-)

The only thing worth running on the Amiga platform are classic games and demos and development tools.

The same is true about the Falcon.

The OS is just a method of accessing these programs. Nothing more, nothing less.

If we used any logic, we would never pay 100€ for a crap 50Mhz cpu. And an amigan with functionality in mind would buy an Efika instead of that.

Last I heard Efika ran something called Linux?  I think your logic is flawed.   :-D

Back in my day, we didn\'t have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we\'d just have to shove them together.

I am also into the Atari scene.  Falcon030's go for a lot ($500 to $1000)  Check out this recent Auction.

I also I think the PS is switching so it can do 110/220v.   But am not 100% sure.

The Falcon is certainly a desirable piece of kit to own from a collectors point of view; I was looking into buying one. But from the sounds of things, backwards compatibility with existing Atari software is somewhere in the region of 60%... so I dont know what utility there is to be gained from buying one when you could just buy a 520 STFM or 1040 STFM and enjoy access to a wider catalogue of software.

I agree with AlexH; it aint the OS that counts, but the software you can run on it. But shelling out over 1000 USD for a machine that can run a handful of Falcon demo's and games doesnt seem worth it to me IMHO. One for the collectors I suppose ;)

I agree.  If you get one to run ST software you will feel like you failed miserably.  I am fortunate to own TWO of them!  Both in the box.  One is brand new.  Thinking of selling it too, but I am hoping to get $1,000 for it.  ;)

The thing for me is that I have no use for it, and software is very scarce. I'm not much of a collector, I've got my Amigas and lots of software for them so the Falcon is just extra box I have to lug around. Someone may have a use for it, or keep it as a collectible. Better than me, where it's just sitting in a closet all the time.

I do consider myself to be a collector that uses his collection and if I had the money, I would buy that Falcon030 and store it away safely most of the time even though I know nothing about it or what it can run.  It is an attractive computer, reminds me of another "Classic" in computer history.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

If I hadn't sworn off collecting stuff I don't use...I'd have an ST and a Falcon around just because they're classics of the day :D

That's a beautiful machine.  Would love to be able to pick it up from ya.

Back before I got into Amiga, my grandfather had an Atari 520ST.  He had some CADD program he used for work, GFA Basic, and some games, both commercial and freeware.  I really got into that machine, and have wanted to get my hands on a 520 or 1040 model ever since, or even something more like what I use in Amiga-land.  I was promised his computer and software collection upon his death, but it went into another relative's closet and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

The desktop aside, the Atari ST is a neat computer.  One day when I can justify the expenditure, I'll pick up a unit to learn and play with.
