Which of these Cyberstorms is better?
« on: April 30, 2008, 01:27:18 PM »
They are both in stock and about the same price...($250)...

amiga.us.com

I only use my Amiga 4000 (w/ Warp Engine 040) for Video Editing (Toaster Flyer), so no gaming or anything.  Which of these would be better for me, or would going to an 060 even be worth it?

Well the Cyberstorm PPC is the nicer one for sure. These are Ebay auctions however and you can expect the PPC card will bring about $1000.00 or more by the time the auction ends.

Either one would be nice, good luck.

It's being sold "as is" which means it's broken

Ok.  Thanks for the information.  I wasn't really sure if the Video Toaster Flyer would gain any benefit from the PPC one...sounds like the other MKII will probably be cheaper.

That's a rather pathetic remark to post. Saying that "as is" in an auction description equals broken might be true in many cases, but not always. Not every seller is a crock, believe it or not.

Experience (especially WRT to Ebay and 2nd hand electronics) tells me otherwise.

"as is", "Sold as seen", and "Cannot test" are sure fire indicators that the item is in fact broken.

The user in this case has since added the information he should have posted in the first place. i.e. While it has no warranty it is not sold as seen, but is tested working.

That's really not true.

Loads of people don't know how to use Amigas any more and wouldn't know where to start.

I buy a lot of "as is" stuff on eBay and very rarely have they been broken. Just stick to the same rules as buying anything on eBay, which is: if you're not sure, only buy from a seller with high feedback.

If necessary, email the seller and ask directly why it's not been tested. If they don't give a good answer, go elsewhere, but generally people just don't know how or can't do it.

Those type of people dont tend to own high end Amiga's and things like Cyberstorm PPC cards. They own worthless 1/2 Meg A500's with an external disk drive ;-)

There is the odd occaision that people end up with high end Amiga hardware and know nothing about it, mainly because they were being thrown away by a business. But in those situations it is rare for that someone to "break" the system up and sell for parts.

I would like to see the Ebay auctions where you've bought Amiga electronic components that were sold "as is" with no indication that they were working just prior to sale.

I would especially be interested in the price of said items. I bet you didnt part with anything over £50.

But you are absolutely correct, if it is something that you want, open a dialog with the vendor.

Always trust in the "If it's too good to be true; it is!"

The PPC is the best - BUT don't buy from this character. Any eBay seller with less the 90% positive feedback is not safe to deal with!

To date, I haven't had one problem buying Amiga hardware (or software) off of eBay. I also sell there, and  never offer any warranty! I always sell "as is". I usually offer a guarantee against an item being DOA though. I've been selling on eBay for well over a year, and still have 100% positive feedback.

motrucker:

are you speaking from experience or just talkin out your arse.

The negative feedback is from selling CAR PARTS AT A LOCAL SWAP MEET WHICH WERE ON EBAY ALSO.

Selling something privately which was won on eBay is pretty out of order.
