Blizz PPC 240-Cyber PPC 233 what's fastest.
« on: August 06, 2003, 02:07:58 PM »
Anyone know what's the fastest, the Blizzard PPC 240mhz or the Cyberstorm PPC 233mhz. Is there much of a speed diference between them.  I know that the Cyberstorm has a 64 bit memory bus as opposed to the Blizzards 32 bit bus, but that's about it, anyone know what's the difference in speeds with these two cards.

The Bliz has a 603 and the CS has a 604e. Supposeldy the bliz isn't close.

The CPPC, easily. Not only is the 604 faster than the 603, the doubled memory bandwidth makes a big difference too. The CPPC is about 5-15% faster than the BPPC at the same clockspeed on average.

way big difference dood!! ...waaaaaaay!

603e's are slow....but biggest prob is memspeed + that a1200 is a hack and bppc even a bigger hack :)

anyway if u have a 060 on yer bppc , like i do...well its ok enough.... though thats because of wos/pup on amigaos....

os4.0 will be diffrent.
Whats up with all the hate!

I used to have a cyberstorm PPC, and now I've got a blizzard PPC, which has been sent away for repaire, am curious. There's not that much of a difference between the 603e & the 604e (at same clock speeds) when used in AppleMacs, but as blizz v cyberstorm, with 060 comp CPU you'd think they were similar.

The CSPPC is way faster then the BPPC, i have a CSPPC with
060&604e@233 and a BPPC 040&603e 240.

The 604e 233 is about 2.3 times faster then the 603e 240.
604e does 380 mips and the 603e 180 if  i remember correctly. And
indeed the CSPPC has a 64 bit data bus (that's why you always have to
put a minimum of 2 simm's on it) and the BPPC has not.

so the CSPPC is much faster then the BPPC :D
Amiga is addictive coz it is fun to use

A1200 Elbox power tower, BPPC 040/25+603e 240 Mhz, 128 MB RAM,Bvision,Zorro IV&Zorro IV PCI busboard,X-surf,Buddha IDE
A4000 Elbox power tower,CSPPC 060/60+604e 233Mhz, 128 MB RAM,CvisonPPC, AriadneII
A600+Vampire V2,A604N+RTC,SUM USB keyboard controller,Topolino with logitech wireless keyboard&mouse

I'm just curious...

But, where can you buy these things these days?
Isn't the BPPC out of production?
What about the CSPPC?

If I was to buy a CSPPC, what would I require? -New hardware?

And CyperStorm MK III is what exactly? -A PPC card with 604e?

I've got an A1200 Blizzard 060@50 mhz.

Thank you very much. I was wondering about this. I'm writing some software on the 240mhz BPPC and was wondering how much faster it would be on the 233mhz CSPPC.
SunBlade 1000 2x1200mhz UltraSparc III+, 8GB RAM, XVR1000, 73GB and 300GB FC drives, DVD, SunPCi IIIpro - 1GB RAM (yes it does work when I set the clock back to 2009), Solaris 10.

Ultra60 2x450MHz UltraSPARC II, 2GB RAM, 9GB U160 and 36GB U320 drives, CDROM

A1200T, 603e-240mhz/040-50mhz SCSI, 256mb, MediatorSX, Voodoo3-3000, Soundblaster 128, 10/100 Ethernet, other stuff OS3.9

The CPPC is the faster system. It has a more advanced CPU and double the buswidth...

Strange. Acording to SysSpeed, my BlizzPPC 603e (240MHz) gets 295 MIPS, 195MFLOPS. Not that MIPS mean much :-)

It uses the same board than CyberstormsPPC but without the PPC (doh!)... so basicly you have a mk2 060 with a very fast access to ram, UWSCSI2 (sweet) and the possibility of adding a Permedia2 or a G-Rex...

I wonder if it would be much difficult to turn a MK3 into a Cyberstorm PPC...

Hmm... Sorry 'bout my first lame questions ;-) I've done some reseach now...

So the CSPPC is only for A4000...
Hmm... This forces me to buy BPPC... But should I go for 603e or 603e+ ? what is the difference? (if both is 233)

Further more I'd like to know if I can get it cheaper than 599 eur? <-That's for a brand new board :-o
-I've been told that BPPC is hard to get as second hand...

Oh, and is it combatible with a mediator board? -As far as I can see It's plugged in the same place as my 1260Blizzard...

Further more I'd like to excuse that I'm a bit off topic and should have started my own thread...

Thanks!

Souldn't it depend on the code? Code with heavy mem access would be noticeably faster on the Cyberstorm, and the contratry should be true.

a cyberstorm MKIII is indeed a ppc card without the ppc :-D

Nope, because the 604 is a LOT more advanced than the 603.

The difference between a 603e and a 603e+ is only the SCSI-II controller. The 603e is missing the SCSI controller, and the board can't be upgraded, so if you use SCSI devices you must buy a 603e+ board.

It's just a question of free space above the slot where you install the board. I have a RBM tower, and there are no problems inserting the board there, but then again, it's a hight tower...

If you have the Mediator and a Blizzard1260 already it shouldn't be a problem
