Probs with idefix97
« on: March 16, 2008, 08:22:05 PM »
I have tried to use idefix97 with the buffered ide interface(x4). One of the partitions on the sys drive stops being usable. There are camera pictures on this and also no more pictures can be copied to it(until the uninstalling of idefix97, where the said partition can be used and the original pictures accessed).

The only way to access the other drive is by using the mount program, which is no burden, but it nice to get it work as it is susposed to!

Possibly idefix cannot be used with big drives(sys disk is 200gb)? By the way the DVD drive works either way

Thanks...Holmes
Started with a zx81,
wanted a c64
Ended up with an Electron with plus 3
Traded up to an Amiga 500
Traded up with a Amiga 1200
now in a ICS tower(Amigo+ppc240 with blizz+128ram)

You *need* IDEfix to use big drives. If it does not work with IDEfix, then your setup was dangerously wrong before.

Please run Check4GB and post its output here (once with and once without IDEfix).

You cannot use more than 128 GB anyway, no matter which software you use.

Elbox' IDE'99 driver is the only one with (working) LBA48 support AFAIK.

Bye,
Thomas

I forgot to mention I'm using )OS4!
perhaps this allows you to use the rest of the disk?

I doubt that the IDEfix software works on OS4. It's a hack after all. But OS4 supports most 4-way adapters by itself, you don't need additional software. If it does not work automatically, check your Kicklayout file if there is an inactive entry for IDEfix or something like that and activate it.

And yes, OS4 does support LBA48.

Thomas

I think I've solved the problem.Forget about idefix97 and just
put "mounter u=2" in top of user-startup.Going to try the "quiet" option next. When boot up all my drives are there.

Further testing required!

P.s in kicklayout mention of ide is already uncommented out.

Your SYS drive probably has the "this is the last drive" flag set which prevents the system from searching for other drives. To cure this, run HDToolbox or MediaToolbox and check your SYS drive. It should tell you that drives have been added or removed. Let it save the changes. After that you should no longer need the Mounter program.

Thanks Thomas this as worked, I have removed the mounter entry from my user-startup. (Just trying to remember how to give the  ram an icon and snapshot it in place.
