Help - OS4 Classic install USB choices?
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:44:51 AM »
Well, I'm doing my install and I see in the guide I have an option for keyboards where I might not choose an 'Amiga' keyboard:

"If you have a PC or Mac keyboard (connected via USB or using a third party) then uncheck this option."

What do you think? I assume all this can be changed later on, yes?

I have this situation:

1. I have a PC keyboard connected via my old Micronik parts.

2. I do have a USB subway and intend on using USB keyboard and mouse whenerver possible.

I just don't want to miss anything, maybe helpful to some one else.

I will now begin drinking a beer and wait a sensible reply. LOL.

Thanks guys/gals.

Ok, USB is not really an option at this point, must be an Amiga One deal leftover in the guide. USB, It's not recognized at this point. But hey, I wondered if drivers were being loaded for this stuff from the CD.

So you are safe with 'Amiga' option. And unchecking it seemed to work fine with my old Micronik adapter too, with PC keyboard.

More beer, onward...

Sirion (the OS4 USB Stack) currently doesn't support the Subway, but the Highway only. You can still use Poseidon under OS4 with the Subway, as long as you disable the input.device patch.

Has anyone tried getting the Thylacine working, as that shipped with a 68K version of the USB stack I would have expected it to work but I copied over the thylacine hdc (or whatever it is, Im not at the miggy at the mo) and the USB prefs program shows no USB cards installed. :(

@The Goose,

You know that drinking beer while making major changes on your computer will result in a machine that wont boot the next morning right?

Happens to me all the time!

Ok, my setup is finally working and it is nice! Now about the Poseidon, is there a ppc version? I do have the old install disk here.

Uh, I should download the latest? Little confused...

Thanks though.

EDIT

I guess it will run emulated then, hmm. I don't think I like that  :-?

Of course there is a PPC version -- for MorphOS :-P

As about speed, my guess is that you will reach maximum throughput with the Subway even under emulation, so why bother?

If you have an old Subway with V2.x licence, you could download the latest Poseidon V2.2 release from Aminet. If you have a install disk with V3.x on it, you can download the latest V3.8r2 version from my homepage. V3.x will not work with an unlicenced Subway from the old batches without V3.x keyfile, which I'm not issuing anymore.

For the novices how exactly do you disable the input.device patch in OS4 for classics

Comment out the PsdLoadModule DEVS:input.device line in your startup-sequence.

Alright, I'll go that way for now (68k) - thanks again. My Poseidon just came on a floppy w/subway; I never had to enter any kind of code. Maybe it's on the disk?

no need to input a code, Poseidon will detect your subway, and work fully.

1) If you just intend to use a keyboard and mouse with Subway, perhaps you can try ANAIIS (even on OS4!)

2) Find and download ANAIIS 0.94 on aminet.

3) Uncompress the archive.

4) copy usbstart, usbreset, usbstop and anaiis where you want (you can copy icons or chose nicer ones elsewhere).

5) click usbstart once => nothing works.

6) compute the exact address of the clockport
base address        (i.e. 0x00e90000)
offset              (i.e. 0x4000)
clockport address => 0x00e94000
start Anaiis, "System" panel, cycle gadget until "Subway", enter 0x00e94000 into Param1, then "Hardware" panel.

7) Plug a keyboard and a mouse into Subway connectors.

8) usbstart, launch anaiis => you should see Subway into "Hardware" panel, some device activity into "Devices" panel and at least it should work :-P! (mouse pointer should move both with original mouse and usb mouse)

9) Now you can modify the startup-sequence to start this stuff at boot time.

10) At his step you can drink beer for the rest of your life.

If you try ANAIIS, let me know if it works or what happens on OS4 and Subway?
*Thanks.
