Amiga INC Announcing OS5.0 at CES in Las Vegas next week!

Just to set the record straight Amiga Inc has never actually produced a product that would run on Amiga equipment nor has it ever attended CES.  Amiga Inc produces 15 games for PCs and does outsourced dotNet development in India.  They bought the Amiga name, but that's it.  Get over it.

No offence, but I hate the Mac OS comparisons. You just can't "get under the bonnet" with a Mac like you can with the Amiga. It's not the same beast at all.

I Agree with the "under the bonnet". Macs are nice but they are so locked...
Linux is more command line than GUI (no offence, its just my personal opinion), and I feel the Amiga is more GUI than CLI. You can do almost everything from Workbench, while on Linux you will have to type something sooner or later.

Amiga OS RKMs are really nice also. I've suffered to find nice info on Linux...

I would choose the Mac. It is no Amiga, but I like it :-)

What can't you do "under the bonnet" of an Mac?  I keep a couple terminal windows open on the Mac's I administer.  There's a full BASH shell there which is a heck of a lot more than Amiga provides...

I think you could do a fair bit of, "under the bonnet", work on a mac.

I don't have a mac but I installed OS10.4.8 on my AMD X2.  I had to do a fair bit of tweaking to get accelerated graphics, sound and network to function.  I really enjoyed the experiment, and no, I don't own a legit copy, so I got rid of the project after a little while.

Sure does make me want to buy a mac though...

I don't think Amiga Inc will produce anything, I would be surprised if they even bother to produce another announcement.

My guess is this;

They will announce OS5 alright.
It will be available soon.

But

it will just be a replacement for TAO. Licensed off the shelf from somewhere. All the crappy games they have will be ported to it for free by their respective owners. The only thing Amiga will do is package up the games for sale like they did for the TAO.

So absolutely nothing will have changed.
Amino keep selling 10 games a week.
Kouri keeps his vehicle for shady deals.
Amino carry on doing everything in their power to kill OS4 and any other none 'DE' activity in the real Amiga market.

Sorry but that's ridiculous. Have you ever tried to get under the bonnet on a Mac? If you had, you would realise that it is entirely possible, even moreso than Amiga OS. Mac OS X is essentially BSD with a pretty face. But the guts of BSD is still there. You still have root access, so you can do whatever you want.

That statement is contradictory. Mac OS X is more similar to Linux than it is to Amiga OS. Getting under the bonnet of Mac OS X is similar to getting under the bonnet in Linux.

Maybe I should have worded that better. Try this: Getting under the bonnet of a Mac is not as much fun or as intuitive as an Amiga. The Mac gives you the tools but if I could be bothered to play with a Mac in this way I may as well use Linux.

Yes it is, but Linux is free. Therefore, I may as well use it in preference to Mac OS. Not contradictory at all, just economics.
