Yes, AGA gets better with faster processors. It's just that IMHO in comparison an 060 is too fast compared to AGA.

That aside when you have an 060 you can use it also for faster chunky to planar routines for games like Doom or programs like Shapeshifter.

Apollo is good but IMHO Blizzard cards are better.

How fast will OS3.9 be? How can you measure? It will be fast. As fast as OS3.0/OS3.1 on a normal 1200. Speed is very depending on the number of colours used on AGA.

Your going to GET the Apollo 060?  Don't you mean your going to TRY and TRACK DOWN an Apollo 060 to buy?  I know in north America, these 060 cards don't grow on trees (by any stretch) and are not available from dealers anymore (maybe in the UK it is different).

Also, will 200 pounds even begin to cover the cost of one?  I know the 060 boards for the A2000 start around $500.

Indeed. The primary issue with high-end Amiga upgrades these days is not just cost, but actually finding the things. It can take months or even years for certain things to turn up.

£100 does indeed sound like a good deal, if the person has the card for sale you should be snapping his/her hand off.

Wow... I got my A600 as a Xmas present when I was 13... of course that was back in its heyday. It was the coolest thing anyone could own :-D. I can still remember how great a moment it was.

Commodore what have you done? Now I have to type this on a generic PC. How sad is that?

If you have the chance to obtain a Pegasos, go for it. Look, I am a long time Amiga user, but I sold off all my 68k hardware (except the A600)since I own a Pegasos.
But the Pegasos and 68k are indeed two slightly different pairs of shoe. The Pegasos can do a lot of modern things at decent speed, where the 68k maschines are more for the old stuff.
The 68k maschines are fun - but they are what they are: old!
That doesn't should sound negative, but honestly the maschines are expensive, limited and they can die every second.
The Peg1 is a bit difficult to start with (it takes a while until you get a good MorphOS setup), but much more powerfull than the old maschines. And it is way lesser buggy than many think. I have a Pegasos1 Aril 1 and I very rarely get crashes. HD file corruption I never observed.
The Pegasos is silent, fast and (relatively) young. The G3 cpu does not get very hot (this extends the average lifespan of this device quite a lot).
In the end the only limitation of the Pegasos is your imagination.
A very good alternative to a Pegasos1 would be the Efika. Not now, but wait a couple of weeks and MorphOS will be available for that little board.
To make it short: Get a Pegasos while you can.
I use the Pegasos since more than 5 years and never ever regretted a single second to have chosen that maschine.

@Gwion
TBH, I think you might be disappointed with the Pegasos. You are obviously in to the "classic" Amiga hardware and the whole Amiga experience. A Pegasos is not really an Amiga, and it *doesn't* run Amiga OS, except through emulation (and you have already said that UAE doesn't feel like using an Amiga - I can relate to that). I think if you get the Pegasos you will be missing that Amiga feeling, even though MorphOS is a great OS and the board is quite powerful. Of course the decision is yours and you should research it before buying, but I really think you would get more enjoyment from the 060 upgrade to your A1200 as it will really open doors for that machine and make your Amiga experience a lot more fun. (020 to 060 on an A1200 is a MASSIVE jump in speed!)

As for what to do with the A600, I think the great thing about the A600 is, as others have said, its tiny size, and you could exploit that. Get the hard disk loaded up with lots of your favourite Amiga games and keep the whole thing with a couple of joysticks and the PSU in a backpack. Take it round to your mates house, rig it up to their telly, and have a blast playing games which are actually fun :-)

If you want to do something a bit more creative, persevere with DPaint. The interface is a bit daunting at first but persevere - it's not actually that hard once you've tried everything out. Also, since you mention that you like the music in Amiga games, you could download a tracker and make some music on your A600.

Hope some of those suggestions inspire you. Have fun with it :-)
