This is the path of a hardware nut! and will involve deep pockets even so more now due to OS4 being released for the classic   (guess that smiley will do). There are afew of us on here that simply enjoy upgrading there amiga's but once you reach your goal then you have to move onto something else!

You can always place adverts on here of things your wanting to buy as the chances are your gonna get it abit cheaper than you would find on ebay, and theres always the new http://amibay.co.uk its still in early days so there really is'nt much on it as of yet but keep it book marked for the future.

Specs:
A1200PT, mediator c/w voodoo 3 2000, sb128, 60G HDD,OS3.9,LITEON CDR, nec 4x4 changer,External Scan Doubler,Cocolino adapter,PS2 keyboard adaptor.

Morphos 2.6, mini mac g4 @ 1.25ghz.

Hi guys, i'm a lone amigan from the tropical Far East.
In my stable i have two A600's , apart from many other miggy's.

If you have great enthusiasm, and a fat bank account, you can actually push the A600 to the extreme:

My Amiga graphics package is ImageFX_1.51 from a magazine coverdisk (it was the reason I bought that magazine that month). Manual? Instructions? What are they? Never had them... there was nothing there... nada...

Well, you could dump a few hundred bucks into it by adding one of those rare 030 cards, RAM, a clockport USB port, USB sound card, a HD, a fixed IDE solution, Individual Computers' trapdoor RAM expansion, what else?  Oh, a grafitti "card" to get ... what is it, 640x400? graphics (plus Mac emulation) and/or a scandoubler.

You'd have a fair-to-middlin machine for some light web-browsing; with the sound card, some MP3 listening, hang a CD-ROM off of there and get the advantages of that (heck maybe even a CD-R/RW?)

It'd be a hella mutant box but you'd have the fastest Trabant in all of East Berlin! LOL

IMHO if you really are serious about expanding and upgrading the A600 I would just get a cheap A2000 and be done with it!  You can get an 030, CD-ROM, graphics card, OS 3.9 and even ethernet cards and have one nice setup.  The A600 is just a toy compared to the other models.  Use it for games and call it a day!

@ Gwion

Play "Lemmings" and "Defender of the Crown" or do some DPaint - that's the main usage I use my A600 for. The last time I used it for some serious reason was when I monitored the DebugOutput of my Pegasos on it.
I like the A600 quite a lot, but I wouldn't expand it. Better concentrate on your Pegasos (IMHO!!).

As you're new to the Amiga, an important thing to keep in mind is this: Anything you want to do with the 600 you can do faster and more easily with your 1200. The _only_ advantage of the 600 is that it's tiny. It's a fun hobbyist machine for many of us here at AO who already have other high-end setups, but if you're still trying to find a use for your other Amigas, the 600 will offer you nothing.

Get an accelerator and some RAM for your 1200, get a network card, get online, start browsing Aminet. It takes a long time to tweak a setup to suit your tastes, so read, experiment, and learn. Ssee what's out there. Do you have the Workbench, DOS, ARexx, and Hard Drive manuals? Find them - you'd be surprised what you can do with a stock system.

And backup (and write-protect) all your Workbench disks before you do anything else.

number 1 use for an amiga 600? finding an atari st user and boring them to death with how much better the hardware is! i had to endure these kind of comments all through the 80's. i bought my atari st for music. and it never got used as a midi setup would have cost £1000. still it got used for some fun games and i wouldn't have gotten one if i hadn't got it for some serious stuff.

i liked deja vu, the uninvited. (i'm still stuck on it...) they are on amiga also. i only just finished deja vu last year on gameboy colour. thats one tricky game! i didn't like the fact the games couldn't be bought like on the spectrum for £1.99 and so i never really bought software for it.

you could do some word processing. i was going to write a book. for me i would have found it nicer to sit at something with a retro feel like the amiga has. making sure it's a nice stable computer though or backing up regular.

i think a lot of the 600's uses have gone to better machines. it was a bit of a stopgap and time has moved on. for me it wasn't as compatible as i wanted. it is still a nice collectable all in one computer. and who knows what add ons may come about in the future. it won't ever lose the money paid for it. they just get rarer.

 :-)
i will bless them that bless you. i will curse them that curse you. gods promise to his chosen people the jews.

I have the game 'the uninvited' is that the sequel to deja vu or was it by the same makers?
If i get a 4MB RAM card and a PCMCIA Network card would i be able to browse the web on my A1200 then?
I think my A600 will be used as a Games Machine as it was suppose to be originally.
I set up my A1200 again and i put some colour to the desktop and it seems great.
When i get the 4MB RAM card for my A1200 how will I be able to get the software so i can browse the web and set-up the PCMCIA network card?
And what network cards are compatible?

If you have some more pounds look for an 030 card at 50 MHz and  at least 8 Mb RAM. It will make your 1200 a lot better.

How will a A1200 with the 4MB RAM card do? Why would i need a 030@50mhz with at least 8MB RAM? To run OS3.9? That would mean i would need a ide bufferd interface, accelerator PCMCIA network card and the internet and network card.
Anyone here trade a PPC Card for a Xbox 360 with HD and some games ?

Ok, first of all don't make any rash decisions; you'll regret them later.

I suggested an 030 with 8Mb of RAM because it will give you a fairly powerfull 1200 with which you can do a lot of stuff without too much trouble. Like gaming from HD and comfortable use of Workbench and other apps. It can run 3.9 too but you don't need that. So you don't need a buffered IDE interface, network card for 3.9 to work but you do need the OS3.9 CD and a way to get it on your HD. My advice is to just stick with 3.1 for now. Even with a 4Mb RAM card your 1200 will feel faster and can do more things.

What would you do with a PPC card if you don't even know what you want to with a stock 1200? Don't trade your Xbox for something you don't have a clue about what you're gonna do with.

Please first make up your mind about what you want to do with your Amigas.
