SharkPPC PCI card in an x86 box?

Seeing as the SharkPPC will be a PCI card, would it be possible to have AOS4 running on it using an x86 CPU and motherboard?

AOS4 can't use the x86 CPU, that's why you'd be sticking the PPC in there :-)

I would suggest that it might be possible with the correct drivers... but does the Shark function like a normal PCI card? or does it expect certain privilages? since it should be the Booting card...

haha I'd be content with it being used in a sense of cyberstorm emulation for uae.  

other then that it might be possible if it's bios can take over the machine... but other then that ... I'd doubt it..

The reason I ask, is that I get the impression from the Elbox website that the A1 version of OS4 will run un-modified on the Shark.

A slightly modifed Amithlon + SharkPPC could boot into OS4/MorphOS perhaps?

This is grown in my mates greenhouse of all places!  First batch, and it's very nice.

Made some 'Chocolate Fudge' with it last week as the missus doesn't smoke.  It went down a treat! :-D

RS: Why have you not presented Shark in action? Did you manage to run Linux in Shark?

MB: We are not interested in the Linux market at all. Linux users have at their disposal a much cheaper and equally effective platform for this system, that is the x86. I believe that such processor cards would not be interesting for Linux users. We are determined to focus on the markets, which ensure real demand for our products. That's why the decision not to start producing SharkPPC cards before readiness of the AmigaOS4 system for boards based on G3/G4 processors. Our private talks to persons related to Hyperion indicate that adaptation of the AOS4 system for AmigaOne for the needs of SharkPPC cards should not take them more than several days.

8 years ago I put together 2 YARC Passive PCI PPC601 SMP (8 Mb RAM) cards
inside ordinary Dell Pentium/75 MHz with TAOS
(precursor of Intent / AmigaDE).

Perhaps if TotalImpact or Omnicluster can create
a similiar Passive PCI card with PowerPC970 2.5 GHz
and 256 Mb RAM, I will try again.

SharkPPC: If Shark use passive PCI bus and dual
ported memory interface, perhaps it is possible
to use it on PC with the correct AmigaDE / Intent
device driver.

That would be nice i.e. barebones PPC G3/G4 CPU + AOS 4.0 ROM** + some SDRAM sockets on a PCI card. It should be cheaper to produce than a full-featured PPC motherboard. **Packaged with AmigaOS 4.0 Installation CD.

The same barebones PPC G3/G4 on PCI card could be use for embedded PPC related solutions (coupled with a very basic bus board).

I do have an old ICL 486DX33 on a card with X86 BIOS, and some SIMM sockets (fitted with 20MB RAM). This old card can be use on to a (ICL) basic bus board**  for standalone purposes....

It would be neat if you could add a few of these to an A1/Peg for multiprocessing. Seeing as how each one would be separated from the others by a PCI bridge though, don't know how practical that would be.
