Ta, I'll bear that in mind - actually the disk I have is supposed to have a nifty installer on it anyway.

-edit- actually, its probably only for PowerMacs (PCI ones) so might not work out of the tin on an A1.

Indeed, the only installer that works on A1 is the one for Woody, from Vumbaca's. There have been some attempts to officialize the A1 kernel and its installer, I don't know how this has ended.

It should work just fine,to get booted anyhow, you may want to replace the kernel with the amiga one specific one at http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/ tho, and add affs to /etc/modules

Why isnt this on the sourceforge page?

http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/kernel/2.6/kernel-2.6.16.49.img
http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/kernel/2.6/System.map-2.6.16.49
http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/kernel/2.6/modules-2.6.16.49.tar.gz

http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/kernel/2.6/

Just follow the readme and you should be fine, just add an entry to /boot/grub/menu.lst (dont remove a working one :)
I assume however that the .img file is the kernel ? and not the initrd image?

Btw, you can almost safely do this to your /etc/apt/source.list
deb http://security.debian.org/ oldstable/updates main contrib
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib
deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib
deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main contrib

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ oldstable main
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ oldstable main

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ stable main

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free

#deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ experimental main non-free
#deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ experimental main non-free

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ etch main non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian etch main non-free

deb ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ lenny main non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.se.debian.org/debian lenny main non-free

Well almost safely... If you run into problems, comment out unstable, but i guess updating isnt an issue for you

had a look at this last night - well, I tried to, but I couldnt get my Woody install to boot ! I must've wiped out the linux kernel settings from UBoot, and forgot how to get it to boot. (It got panic attacks, and paused for 3 minutes before re-UBOOTing)

I did notice that there is a pegasos boot file on the DVD - written in FORTH, which is cool !

@JJ

not the broadband - I've got the free TV package (no extras I have to pay for) and a phone package they don't offer anymore... All day everyday, my local and national calls are free. BB is extra, and I still need to pay extra to get it installed.

Fair enough mate.  Just wondering.  Had BB for too long now, and could not imagine using dial-up. It wouldd ddrive me nuts.

Well the problem is because most website designers assume that everybody is on BB these days, so they fill their sites with so much uneeded hig def pictures and flash and the such.  Must be a nightmare.

Dial-up used to drive me bonkers too, but to go back to it, I just wouldnt bother lol
