First of all this is an Amiga forum so you'd expect people to care for Amiga related stuff first and foremost....

Then, what I said is not that "baseless" .... I contacted both Vesalia.de and AmigaKit.com asking them when they will start selling Efikas at USD100, and they both said they are not able to sell their remaining stock at that price.

Maybe they were lying?

I've been waiting for awhile now for MorphOS to come out for this. I'll buy one as soon as that happens. Otherwise its just a little Linux machine

nope they are not lying at all. They have purchased and paid in ADVANCE for theys boards before the super-special-mumbo offer.

Well to be fair I dont think Efika is targetted at end users, but at developers. Any machine without an OS is useless to end users - yes I know its 'runs' Linux, but it seems to be too slow to be anything useful at that.

I expect by the end of the year you'll have AROS and MorphOS running on it, so that makes it pretty cool, and frankly complaining about a product moving forward is silly, its what we should want from our hardware.  Do you also get upset that noone makes 40 Meg drives anymore, they have gone to those Terrabyte sized ones now, for cheaper then I bought my first 40 Meg drive for and much faster and much much more reliable.

Then don't buy it.  Pretty simple, huh?

Some folks find it interesting and this raises the whole profile of the Community.

Solaris for PowerPC also targets the board.

BTW, the AROS EFIKA will ship out tomorrow.  We missed the FedEx cut-off today.

P.S. Every little bit helps from wherever the support comes from...

.. and he won't.

But that's the point he's trying to make isn't it? What's the point of buying this thing until AROS or MorphOS is available to try on the Efika?

Linux on it is pointless, when you can get much better results with any half-modern x86 machine lying around.

From what I understand the Efika was built in-mind never to actually be a desktop machine anyway.

I don't see the point of jacking off to a low end ppc board. Who cares if it runs Aros? I think its good the code base support multiple procs. I'm not buying a crappy ppc board to run aros when I can literally pickup a second hand PC from a thrift shop for 50 bucks that would blow it out of the water in performance.

Until MorphOS ships with the Efika, it's an exercise in masturbation, period. And it's still an exercise in masturbation to pay good money to run MOS on a low end ppc board.

If you want Aros, don't bother with this board. If you want MorphOS, i understand that, but don't buy this hardware until MorphOS ships with it. Who the hell buys a product that doesn't do what they want on the promise that it will sometime after they buy it?

Maybe you would prefer QNX?

National Instruments and QNX Software Systems: EFIKA OEM Bundle

The NI Week 07 Gallery is now online. For the NI USB DAQ (EFIKA!) it was a good show!

AROS is being ported to multiple archs, PPC is one of them with the assigned EFIKA bounty an SAM440 as an unassigned bounty.  If the hardware fits a need, go for it.  I happen to think EFIKA size and power requirements could yield some interesting markets.
