I'll definately use OS4 on my AmigaONE. I hate linux, its horrible. I've always hated the *ix way of doing things, to be honest.

MorphOS on the other hand is looking quite well, but from what I hear, it does not funtion well,
Not sure where you ever came up with that second part at all.  The MorphOS system that I have here is running pretty darn well.  Haven't been able to crash it except twice, and those were both my own fault (trying to remember how to operate an Amiga).  Other than that, you just have to remember that MorphOS is new.

It may, or may not be a "beta" depending on your point of view, but I REALLY want to liken the experience to when we got AmigaOS 1.1 way back then.  If you were around then, you'd remember that 1.1 was a bit "flaky" and some things we later came to expect simply weren't there, but it was still the coolest damned OS we had ever seen.  Same with MorphOS.  It very much reminds me why I liked the Amiga to begin with.

I can't speak for OS4.  I've never seen OS4, and I would not have the classic hardware to run OS4.  I can however speak for MorphOS 1.3 and I believe it's a fantastic first step towards the future of the platform.

Hm. You hate Linux, you dislike the way Windows XP and MacOSX looks like... And you still state that

It [OS4] looks infinately preferable to Windows XP or MacOS X's default appearance to me. (and no, thats not hardcore Amiga zealot "anything not amiga is automatically crap" mentality, thats my honest opinion going purely on aesthetics.)

Aren't you a bit biased towards AOS? :-) (Not that it's a problem, as we are all Amiga users :-))

Yes, I dislike the default themes of Windows XP and MacOS X.

I am biased in that AmigaOS happens to be my favourite operating system, but even i'll admit that AmigaOS 1.0 to 3.9's default look is shockingly bad.

HOWEVER, I'm *NOT* biased in the "everything not Amiga is crap" way. I quite like BeOS, and QNX. I have a couple of RiscOS machines, and for a non-proper multitasking OS, and given its age, RiscOS is quite nice, if a little weird.

I also don't mind using Windows *THAT MUCH*, but I've never felt the need to buy a windows box. I wouldn't say i LIKE windows, but I like a lot of the software out there FOR windows :-D

I think the looks of it are secondary. What really matters is if it responds and multitasks like AOS.
The look is not bad, but could be better by the way, I think  the grey used is too much.

Buddy Christ, I wish you lived close to me so I could come over and check out MorphOS, would be nice to live in Germany so I could sneak into H&P and have a look at Amiga OS 4. :)

"but even i'll admit that AmigaOS 1.0 to 3.9's default look is shockingly bad."

I'm one of those guys that think every AmigaOS up to 3.9 looks great. :)

AmigaOS 1: wow, blue colors, quite nice and big icons. I like it. Easy to see what I'm doing.

AmigaOS 2: Ok, now we're running the grey power here. Still nice and intuitive icons.

AmigaOS 3: Hm, still grey? Allright! I'll just smack this image to the background... aaah, nice and pretty. :)

AmigaOS 3.9: Oooh! Now we're talking! This is looking GRRRReat! (I have themed this look to my win2K computer so every computer I use look Amiga'ish)

But that's just me... ;)

and adding:

AmigaOS 4: Yes! They haven't changed the appearance that much! This is great, this looks good and I can change the appearance if I want to, like um.. you know, into OS3.9 colours. ;p

Haage & Partner are not developers of OS4 anymore.

What I like is, it's not overly bogged down with option tabs/icons all over the place. Basic, yet appears quite functional (and I BET response time is faster than 8 seconds + on my 2.26 GHz P4!!!)

And I hope we can have/make BIG program icons, just like in the past! :-)

AmigaOne! Remember, sometimes less is more!

So I guess that A500, 600, 1000, 2000, CDTV, CD32, are pure garbage then? Thanks for posting here.
