I know, only time will tell, I am just wondering though why these are the screen shots they have chosen to show off, cause they really look bad.

The way I see it, the screenshots are just there to show HOW the OS works, not what it looks like.

As we all know it can be re-skinned, and I doubt Hyperion are going spend much (if any) time on a set of funky skins. Their time is better spent getting the underlying nuts and bolts working. Once OS4.0 is released, I'm sure Aminet will suddenly have a bulging util/skins directory as we all scramble to design the best looking skin we can. ;-)

[On an aside, is it called 'skinning' or are we going with MS-inspired 'themes' ?]

Ugh, monday morning, and I'm having trouble typing logical sentences....

because i used to have about 3 different nicks depending on what site i was on (or if i was on IRC), and it was annoying and sometimes confusing, so I decided to use the same one everywhere.

New Screenshots have been posted.

A simple change seems to make a big difference. Notice new gadget designs for the default look.

personally I like the 'bulge' effect but with the square cornered gadgets.

Still not sure about the colour scheme though. Mistake then(OS2) and mistake now.

Does look smarter and there is a peek at the new icons, I guess. Should look good  when they are implemented.

But since noone except *a fraction* of the most die-hard supporters in this allready small community will even consider to buy the A1 hardware, this is not a problem! They will buy it anyway, no matter the looks!

As long as they provide with a fully functional MODERN OS, I'm happy, I can really care less what it looks like either, I just figured with the attention of guys at OS news and other such places, you would want things looking as good as you could get them, but if you terget market is not the average consumer (which makes up a large percent of the market I might add) then I guess you can go which ever way you want.

I don't mean any offence though, I am VERY greatful for the work you guys are doing, really I am, but I can not help be worry like hell about the future of my beloved Amiga. Life was fine before Microsloth and generic hardware stole the market (prices are always the key), but now that Microsloth IS the market, it is going to take a lot to get it back, and you are going to need to target as many audiences as you can, not just us geeks, or the strictly Amiga freaks, but the dim witted commen consumer as well. We'll need this in Wal-Mart and all over the entertainment media basically is what it boils down to, And I think there has to be an inexpensive way of reaching that goal without sacrificing quality or the spirit of Amiga. Notice Mac is back...

...but who is buying? Only a select few, but there problem right now is not only software and drivers, but the freaking price.

Thats not quite true; I wouldn't buy it if it was fixed to some bright purple scheme or something crazy and you couldn't change it, but since the default look actually looks really nice, AND you can change it if you don't like it, its win-win.  :-D

One thing that I wondered about lately: will the AmigaONE users use OS4 at all, after they get used to Linux? Linux is much more decent: it has a better MP3 player than AmigaAMP, better movieplayer than action, a very fine draw package, it has even games, a decent browser, way better GUI system, not to mention MOL...

When they get used to it, and after missing AmigaOS for a long period (till the end of the year at least) will they use OS4 again after they buy it or just try it out, scream, and flee back to Linux?

Apart from those who bought it, but don't use it at all, because they dislike linux...

Just a theory though :-) Theoretically OS4 will feel way faster than Linux (just as MOS does), so it may be just a rhetoric question, but hey, I was just wondering.

I'll definately use OS4 on my AmigaONE. I hate linux, its horrible. I've always hated the *ix way of doing things, to be honest.
