I have a PC286 in my GVP HD-A500+
It has been several years (circa 1995 since I last used the PC286) so hopefully I can remember.
I could never get the PC286 to work with a 2.05 rom or 3.1 rom. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, if you can get it to work with a 3.1 rom, let me know.
I had to boot up with a 1.3 rom to get the PC286 to work properly. I suggest using a multirom (or other rom board) as I found that boot files and programs like degrader acted weird with the PC286, as it does a soft reboot in some modes.
I also cannot get the PC286 to work with my VXL*30, I have to disable the 68030 and boot with the 68000. It obviously works with the GVP A530, but other accelerators

Recap: disable your accelerator, hard boot with a 1.3 rom
I found that the PC286 to limited to do anything real, a 286 in (~92-93 memory is failing) when this thing came out it was already very very slow and antiquated (486 were already out at the time). The video modes were odd, and it only supported DD 720 disks (making it hard to put even windows 3.1 on it as most distributions are on HD disks, it cannot use 3.11 as that requires a 386)
If you can find a A2386 bridgeboard and a big box amiga, that would be the way to go. I was able to run win 95 on my upgraded bridgeboard with a 486slc3 and 16 megs (using the simm ram hack), even up until circa 97-98 with most non-3d software. It even ran warcraft I and doom fairly well, plus you could get a 2 meg 16bit ISA SVGA cards to work, and had the ability to use cd-roms.
