I'm self-employed, so mostly I am working from home.

On the original topic, I was wondering why they decided against the idea of accomodating an a1200 mobo connector. Inconvenience, cost maybe? Or perhaps it was the desire to leave the old hardware firmly behind....?

I dunno, seems like a DUMB amiga idea to me.

Oh well,,, just another decision that will kill off the miggy even quicker.

It was because escena admitted defeat on their northbridge design and in the meantime Eyetech learnt about the artica s, which lead to the A1.
Meanwhile escena where supposed to be developing a PCI bridge card that would attach to classic A1200  to allow Classic amiga hardware calls.

The original plans was for a port of exec to ppc and the rest of the os to be in 68K
The bridgecard would be needed to allow OS4 to run on the A1. The chipset dependencies would be removed and OS module to be ported to ppc by OS4.2

However, the bridge card never materialised so in ensence OS4.2 became OS4 aka a shed load more work but a pure PPC, hardware dependencies removed OS.

OS 4 has the frame work built in to map an AGA call, in escence the chipset could be emulated.

People have hinted at building such traps from the UAE source and is deamed quite feasable.

No, your A1 cannot use the Custom chips on your A1200. Its impossible. The A1 is built on modern hardware and not shackled to the past, the custom chips are too slow and too old for modern software. Most Amiga software benefits from graphics cards, even the old Picasso II beats AGA hands down in speed and colour depth.

You have to use an 'Emulator' such as UAE since it can emulate 1000s of Amiga games successfully.
I have been using Winuae for 3 years and is better than my A1200 ever was. Of course some badly written games sometimes refuse to run, but the majority can.

I think i will just keep the old miggy a1200 set up for games and older apps, with an ethernet card in it to connect it to my future miggy a1.

looks like the only option.... crap.

You could always plug the composite output of your A1200 into a TV card on your A1. Saves on desk space.

Thanksfully there's a button that says 'English' in the top right corner. English still doesn't make it 100% clear however. What is cool though, is that it fits into a 5.25" bay!
