A1000 Help
« on: February 21, 2007, 12:28:33 AM »
Cant Believe this,

Anyway, for some reason my 1060 sidecar isnt being recognised by my A1000. SO Im going to have to pul it apart again on the weekend, DAMN IT!

Maybe I just need to re attach something, Ill check that the AST Rampage and EasyFix ECH-30+ HD cards are still plugged in properly while im at it.

Im thinking it may be the connection between the A1000 and the 1060 sidecar from the side of the A1000???

ANyway, hope it all gets working again on weekend!!

Just to save me from having to read, hey bloodline, do you know if I can run Workbench 3.1 on my A1000?? Thats assuming I can get my sidecar working, then I'll end up upgrading my A1000 a bit for fun, while a wait for the new HArdware to come out for OS4 or OS5, whichever happens!

Cheers!!

Whats the latest Kickstart and Workbench I can place onto my A1000?? Is my A1000 limited to using 2.0??

Also, If anyone knows any upgrades I can perform on my A1000
Let me know, as I am desiring to get more out of it, especially once I get my sidecar working, as it has a hard drive in it, only 30Mbytes though!

Cheers again!!

Can I use A500 parts to upgrade my A1000 also??

On Aminet there are some hacks.
1.  twinkick.lha
2.  kick1000.lha
I hope they help.

I think it's possible, but you have to have kickstart 3.0...

Don't shoot me if i'm wrong though, i'm not that familiar with the A1k and this so-called "sidecar" you're talking about...

You can use up to kick 1.3 via kickstart disk. And up to kickrom 3.1 via softkicking (needs fastram for the kickfile)
(sidecar won't work with kick3.1 IMHO)

sideexpansions mostly work also on the a1000. They plug just on the other side, so you are looking at the back of the a500-expansion (supra A500 scsi works, also supra A500 membox, tronex scsi (fse) also)

@Markus_Bieler:

Are you sure, as I had Kickstat 2.0, wb 2.0, and extra 2.0 on the little floppy's. Ofcourse, My farther was a smart man, so Im not sure how he got it to work!

Also, can I use 2.0 your saying, how do I softkick it?

Is it perhaps, that I already have this in my sidecar??

I mean, dadio managed to place a 30mb harddrive and an AST Rampage card in it, so i got a free slot, was wondering what I can fill it with as an upgrade??

(supra A500 scsi works) :

Is this a hard drive or a modem, like the supra series of modems??

Cheers!!

Wish I had some advice for you, but good luck on the a1k. The a1k is my favorite model and it's always nice to see that people still pay it some attention.

I'm probably the biggest sucker for throwing away the most cash on an A1000, but here is what you can do:

Expert Services Rejuvenator
2MB Agnus
Super Denise
Spirit Inboard 1000 w/ 1.5MB ram
Sapphire 68020
DKB Kwikstart II with 2.05 and 3.0 (I can load 1.3 from a floppy)
DataFlyer 1000 with a 540MB drive, split into multiple partitions, with 1.3, 2.05 and 3.1 all bootable. Other partitions for the software. I choose the partition to boot into by holding down both mouse buttons when booting.
External SCSI CD ROM using the DataFlyer

So if you have plenty of money to burn, you can burn it up LOL!
Amiga 1000, Saphire 68020/68881, Inboard 1000 1.5MB, upgraded daughter boards to A500/A2000 specs, upgraded chip sets (sorry, it was some time ago) Dataflyer with a Quantum 540MB drive.

Back when I had my 1000 in operation, I put a DKB Kwikstart board in it. - That does require surgery, you need to pull a PAL chip off the 1000 and replace it with one supplied with the DKB. So if you buy one off eBay or something, be sure to get that chip.  I had both 1.3 and 2.0 in mine but retired the 1000 before 3.x came out.

I also had a Phoenix box that gave the 1000 two A2000 style Zorro slots. I put a CBM 2058 ram card and a SCSI card in there. Worked great.

@DonP1:

You are a ledgend!

Having said that, If there are any website links you could give me would be also nice, and would add to your tally!

Also, Im hoping I can get my external 1060 setup working, so that I have a harddrive to store the information onto. I was hoping that I can always have information onit, and basically use the hard drive to play games and use creation software.

If Im lucky, I might be able to retrieve a big enough graphics card for her, by chucking on one made for an A500, in the hopes that it fits!!

Also, that list is quiet impressive, I wouldnt mind doing a similar feat, can you help us out a bit in future regarding this?

Cheers!! 8-)  8-)

P.S.So what are the limits of games and software programs you can use??

@ JimS:

Interesting.

So what Amiga system do you have now?

Would you get new Amiga hardware when it comes out and run OS4??

Or are you going to wait for OS5 and run it on your PC directly?? Or have it emulated??

You can apparently choose with OS5, when they finally have the project finished, one can either have only the Amiga OS5 as the primary OS, or run Amiga OS5 as a program ontop of an existing OS.

Obviously Im going to, when and if it comes out, Have OS5 fully running as my main OS, I Really dislike windows, but yet Im forced to use it everyday at work!!

Anyway, just curious!!

Cheers!!

P.S.Do you have a mac? PC? running what OS? OS's? 8-)  8-)

Have you tried asking at a1k.org?
If something can be done to an A1000, then someone there has done it...blindfolded.

Starke:

My main real Amiga is the A2000. Nothing special, just a 2000 with a GVP 030 combo, 2091, and a Toaster. It's mostly retired now too. Most of the time I use UAE on my crappy PC. It's got a copy of the hard drive from my 2000, so it's almost like running my 2000. Except that "start toaster" icon doesn't do anything. ;-)

As for OS4 and beyond, I'm in a wait & see mode. If reasonable hardware shows up, I'll look at it. I'm not going to buy into it, just for the sake of having an Amiga. Actually, I'm almost more interested in the Minimig.

Oh yeah, I use a PIII machine salvaged from the trash. It runs Win98SE.

@Jim:

Nice.

Minimig huh, Ive heard many like the minimig, can you perhaps explain why some of the reasons are for this??

Also, wheres the best website to perhaps buy a minimig, or arent they available yet, just like the hardware for a OS4 with case??

Cheer!!

P.S.Ive got emulated OS3.9 also, Id love to find people in Victoria for some help with it, as I wouldnt mind running it and having it booted from startup on my PC.

P.S.S.Also, what are my limitations on games for the emulated version of OS3.9, Im asking, as I havent had time to read up on all of this, nor to search for it!

Cheers Again!! 8-)  8-)
