@motorollin
You can't OFFICIALY/leagaly buy OS3.1 anymore..... So sharing the disk is not realy a crime, IMO.
Buying it form amigaKit is the same as buying it of ebay. ( I don't think they are licensed by amiga.inc)
Don't freak out, amigaKit is a super cool store! I'm a customers.
Users on this site realy have no bussines selectivly inforcing copyright laws for amiga.inc, thats for amiga.inc to deal with, if they want or can.
I, personal find it funny! Feel free to have a totaly different opinion!

Rubbish. AmigaKit (and probably other retailers) sell original OS3.1 sets which came from the producers of the OS. They are perfectly "official" and "legal".

Again, rubbish. Just because you think software does not exist "officially", that doesn't make it legal to distribute it in ways which infringe the rights of the copyright holder.

Yes it is the same. What's your point?

[EDIT]
Please read the site policy before you start posting messages saying you think it's ok to pirate software.

i don't have a really strong opinion in any direction on this matter, i've been pirating all my life, and buying games and software to.

but on my escom-disks it says "copyright from 1995-2000" or something, doesn't that mean copyright for my disks aren't copyrighted anymore cause escom doesn't own the rights?
does the copyright of my copies in theory belong to amiga inc. now?

i'm just curious

Those dates may seem like a long time ago now, but in legal terms the software is still copyrighted, so it is still technically illegal to copy them.

Note that I'm not expressing my personal opinion here. I'm just stating legal fact.

Realistically: nobody. As I said, I'm not stating an opinion about piracy one way or another. I'm just stating the legal facts because they are different to guru-666's incorrect opinion.

@motorilin
My point is simple...

It's no piracy to help a brother that owns an amiga (that presumably came with os disks when bought origionaly) with a  disk that he stupidly wrote over!  I will give the guy the benifit of the doubt!  Even then, I would rather help sombody new get the os up and running than shun them, but thats just me, I'm am amiga lover and actualy want more people to use them!  Hell I can donate and transfer my licences to anybody I want, and I own lots of os3.1 licenses!  Thats the same thing amiagkit is doing with his stuff or anybody selling the disks on ebay.

I have read the guildlines(have you?). I'm not priating anything moto!  I actualy CAN'T pirate them, since I own them all from 1.0 up on mint origional disks!(do you?)  What are you telling me?  I can't have an opinion that is differnet from your narrow minded perspetive, or else? Because I don't agree with you. I don't have to, I can think that you are stark raving mad, so what. You may even be wrong or incorrect, since I doubt you know more about the situation than I.

So whats your point dare I ask?

@kidkoala
again glad you go up and running, let me know if have any trouble with your setup as I would be glad to help or transfer one of my os3.1 lics to a cool amiga user!  Even moto if he get stuck of does something silly with his disks! (yes I have many origional disks)

Onelove

I agree with you there. What I don't agree with is your statement that piracy is ok if you don't think the item in question is available "officially" any more.

It's only the same if you give your original copy to the person to whom you "transfer your license".

Why does ownership negate piracy? If you make a copy and give it to somebody illegally, it is still piracy even if you personally own the license.

Yes, for the OSs that I use.

I didn't say that. I was just correcting the mistakes you made in your previous post. You are free to have any opinion you want, but that doesn't make them legal.

But he already OWNS the original copy. It is in many countries legal to copy your legally bought software for backup purposes. The WB disks are not even copy protected, so there is no hacking involved either. As long as no one posts any links on this site, i see absolutely no problem.

I can make a copy and toss the origional if I want! I still own it untill i give it to sombody else!

BTW who cares, becasue like I pointed out, every single amiga sold came with the OS, so if you own the box (a1200 or 4000).....

I have no idea why you even think there is anything about piracy going on..... or where you can official buy this stuff right now...

anyway, you don't know who owns os3.1, I do, it's amiga.inc (or so they claim), I don't see them selling it righ now, do you?

guru-666: Wow, are you related to Laser ?
Whilst agreeing that help is a good thing, your attitude stinks.
We don't need to know that you are better/cleverer than other ppl and we will not worship you until you have fixed all our problems with quiet devotion and selfless perseverance   :lol:  As I said in a different thread, its time for a :pint:

Not related to laser.  No connection.  Don't think I care for that rude bloke!  Once you get to know me you will realize there are huge diffeneces.  I can see that mabe you think I'm being harsh, but actualy I'm being realistic, somthing this group (and amigaworld) deperatly needs.  :-)

I think the attitute of, you wrote over your disk now go buy another one stinks.
It's silly, unrealistic, and legaly retarded.

It's too early for a  :pint: where I am.   :-)  Maybe some other time.

Indeed. And one day all of our disks are gonna go bust.. Floppy disks are not meant to last forever... :( What do we do then? Trash our amigas because it would be morally wrong to download a backup?
