I was getting quite a bit of spam but it seems to have slowed down recently (perhaps it's partially due to the PHP script I just installed on my web page with an infinite amount of fake adresses - that'll teach the spambots :-D )

I haven't had any mailing lists like some people though, so it doens't look like I've been targeted.  IMO if you find out who this was for certain and it is as serious as it's looking then they should be IP banned - but it's Wayne's place and his decision.

The email alias I use for amiga.org isn't used for anything else.  I literally don't use the alias at all, I just receive mail, and until now I've had no spam through it, except for a significant number last night.  That and also because of the type of spam being received, I know it was an amiga.org user.

I can't say we've had an altercation, but 'amigamad' has been temporarily placed in the black hole until he can grow up a bit. I presume it's him doing so.

Are you right to make presumptions like that? (Even if it is pretty 'obvious' to you) What if it isn't amigamad? You may have had disagreements, but by making accusations like that aren't you giving him more reason to 'disagree' with you?

He would be the mostly likely suspect.  Sometimes all you can go on is your gut instincts, and as a rule, I find them more likely to be correct then incorrect.    I doubt there is anything Wayne could say more about Amigamad to make him more unstable then he already is.

It was actual mailing lists, and site signups - how many spammers do you know that sign you up for [log in] membership on redhat.com? :-)  I thought initially it might be email harvesting going on, but from the types of email spam I got, I know it's not that.

I got some confirmation requests, but some mailing lists are still semi-reputable that don't have this system.

The reputable lists that sent you a confirmation message will gladly give you the IP address of the person who signed you up for the emails.

Armed with this you can them tell your ISP, and they will find out what ISP they use.  Then there ISP will cut them off.

Last laugh is yours mikeymike! :-D

I can promise you its not me i have never done anything that low,I have tons of spam and rubbish email myself and know how bad it can get the most recent was from a freeserve email address sending a virus this is the reason i use yahoo for email and even then they only allow a certain amount of sites to be blocked .I hope who ever has done this gets banned . I have been a member for a long time and have been visiting this site a lot longer than the date i sighned up this is without doubt one of the best amiga sites.and i would never do anthing to get banned if you still think its me then you can ban me i have no bad feelings towards anyone even if i dont always agree with someone. I dont always agree with my friends but i never fight or let anything get to the stage of doing something low or falling out with them, tommorows another day and everyone has difrent ideas if they didnt it would  be a boring  world. :-o  :-o  :-?
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

@ amigamad

Too right, just because you may disagree or criticise, it usually doesn't mean anything personal. I will NEVER agree on some things with some of my closest friends e.g. politics or ethics, but that doesn't mean I send them letter bombs or anything! In fact, if they did agree with me, they'd be boring people and probably not my friends!

@Wayne

Unless you have PROOF it was amigamad, I'd retract that accusation.

He may have pi**ed you off a bit recently, but that doesn't give you the right to say it was him without proof.

If you have proof  post it so we all can see, no proof apoligise to the guy and refrain from throwing accusations around please.

I really would have expected more from you Wayne. :-(
