Juvenile stunt by amiga.org member

Signing up someone's email address to a number of mailing lists without their consent requires a level of humour that I'd put on par with the type of person who prank-calls emergency services.  Whoever it was, grow up, seriously, or stop playing with daddy's computer and go back to your toys.

I've had a lot more spam than usual recently.  Could this be related?

Ditto, over the past two months I've had over 1000 spam mails. And the frequency of them is increasing noticably.

I think next week I may sign up for a different freeserve account, as I feel 300 filters that only clean up about 30% of all the spam I get is not ok (the spam artists involved only send out single emails that are never the same twice).

I trully hope whoever it is who has signed me up for some of this trully sick crap (don't ask) suffers some serious indignities in the future.

@MikeyMike

Was it actual mailing lists or loads of spam you got?

Mailing lists normally send a confirmation email that you have to reply to, then you can be added.  This is (supposed)  to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen.

Bad news indeed if a member has gone to this silly extreme. :-x

Lets's hope the culprit is from West Virginia and gets caught...didn't they pass some anti spam laws recently?

Or did I imagine it? :-)

It was actual mailing lists, and site signups - how many spammers do you know that sign you up for [log in] membership on redhat.com? :-)  I thought initially it might be email harvesting going on, but from the types of email spam I got, I know it's not that.

I got some confirmation requests, but some mailing lists are still semi-reputable that don't have this system.

How do you know it was someone off a.org?  Have you had an altercation with someone on here recently?

@mdma

I can't say we've had an altercation, but 'amigamad' has been temporarily placed in the black hole until he can grow up a bit.  I presume it's him doing so.

I've been getting an increase in SPAM as well.  However, I use MailWasher Pro.  Wonderful program that has built-in SPAM recognition and also uses SpamCop.net services automatically to supplement its recognizing capabilities.  It does a very good job, and it sends fabricated bounce messages back to the originating sites to make it look like my Email address is invalid.  It's very cool!

Except of course if the person responsible is reading, in which case they'll plug away regardless...

Bloody spammers.
