Granted (I did the same thing for a while :-)), but I was always worried the tube would blow out since the monitor took about 5 seconds to actually lock on to the signal.

Well, it depends. The 1942 is a better cosmetic match to the 600, 1200, and 4000, and the 1960 is a better cosmetic match to the 3000 (if you care about such things. Plus the 1942 has speakers. So it boils down to:
-Do you care about Super72?
-Do you care about the physical appearance of your monitor?
-Do you care about built-in speakers?
