Questions according AROS
« on: July 22, 2006, 12:33:42 PM »
Hi guys,
I´ve 2 questions according the native i386/x86 AROS OS.

1. Is it possible to play classic 68k Amiga games or PPC games in AROS?

2. I burnt the boot image to CD, but now I can´t get the quake wad data on it afterwards. The CD is burnt in multisession format and the quake wad is on it, but not on the boot session.

question 1: NO

Aros is a OS designed to look like Amiga OS but for the PCs
so
Aros is an OS that runs only x86 programs designed to run on AROS

Question2:don't know

Much like MorphOS or OS 4, AROS is a fundamental shift away from "classic" hardware - just this time usinh widely available and cheap x86 processors instead of PPC. AROS doesn't yet have the JIT capabilities of the PPC commercial variants but there are plans to intergrate this low level emulation in the future. There are AROS native programs and the more people that get on board the more software there will be. UAE is available of course so that's an option, especially for games.
MorphOS on MacMini
RISC OS on RPi
Dreaming of owning another classic.

Thanks. But how can I fix the CD boot session problem? Would AROS MAX help? What´s included in AROS MAX other than in the normal AROS?

Ok,
I burnt a new version. Should work now. But one last question. Does someone of you know if it is possible to use a USB Stick under AROS. Because I don´t want to install AROS at the moment but play around with it and get some images and music files from the stick.

You'll have to wait for Michal to finish the USB stack for AROS :-)

Michal's second daughter was just born about two week ago and he is in the final stages of submitting his Ph.D Thesis (he may have already done so very recently) and getting ready for his Ph.D final test so USB and AROS-64 developement has greatly slowed.  You can see the Next Generation AROS Developers here.

As for USB sticks are concerned, this bounty really needs to be completed first so AROS has fairly easy time porting existing "Amiga" file systems.

Only via EUAE.  There is a bounty for initial/basic UAE integration into AROS which is the current target for TeamAROS-Benefactors' donations.

Only via EUAE. ...

That doessn't allow running PPC games, though.

Truism.  Then again, there isn't enough PPC games to make it worth while to port a PPC emulator either.

There aren't enough (killer) 68k apps to make a 68k emulator worth while either...
