Amiga stuff thrown in the dumpster :-(

What did you throw ? I go rarely on ebay outside Europe..

Guys, nothing of tremdous value was thrown away. I essentially tried to give the stuff away at shiping. You really think I would have made a profit if it sold on eBay for $0.01? No it would have been a loss, and it still didn't sell,thus I made a loss on listing fees already.

The stuff was mostly software, with little hardware pieces. Used complete Word Perfect, some new boxed games, some used boxed utils(Art dept pro, OS2.0), a handy scanner etc etc. It was a couple boxes of retro stuff. No PPC cards, no Walker, no A3000+ etc.

I do hate to throw anything, I love the old Amiga. But times come when if you can't give it away, you must dump :-(

Hey all:

I just started working with a local used computer dealer (he went under a year ago) and now we will take used Amiga stuff here in the Kansas City Area mainly because we are looking for parts to make repairs.   Also, I will not use ebay at all for this effort because you have to markup things and there is a point where you just can not expect to get what you have in something back.   I wish I had known what red had because if he had posted here on A.org, we might have paid the shipping at least :-)   Although right now the business is just getting going, so we are mainly counting on donations.

It's interesting, but to support Amiga, you must have a couple up and running and getting those parts can be a trick :-)  Plus you want a good showing.

Anyhow, last time I moved, I actually threw out a bunch of items that I regret tossing in the bin myself.   So I can sympathize also.  Don't be too hard on Red.

if id seen your stuff i probably would have bid on word perfect. i should search ebay for amiga software more often i usually only check for hardware.

Yeah... I'm kinda surprised no one took the Word Perfect and the DigiView....  The rest, well, I might question why someone would want...  Though I must admit, I have one of those god-awful Golden Image hand scanners in my collection, too.  :lol:

I used to live down the street (then "800 miles on I-10") from Reddy, but not anymore. :-( Maybe we can see a silver lining if we're sure that the stuff that got thrown away was stuff that 1000's of other people already have anyway. Still makes me sad to see any old cool electronics thrown away. :-(

You must be kidding.  First, tis wasteful.  Next, it's selfish.  Third it's bad for the planet to just dump stuff that you still works.

Increasingly I see things laid at the curbside with a sign that says "FREE".  Stuff usually goes in less than 8 hours.  If you can't find a new home for your Amiga stuff you're either lazy or not using your brain.

Anyway, it's easy to see who votes Republican here.

Hardly useless. As shown by the comments above. Why you didn't offer them on the Amiga newsgroups is beyond me.  Most people don't bid on the 0.01 auctions on Ebay.  Something about "If it's too good to be true".

And besides, tossing something up on ebay isn't the answer.  I rarely look for Amiga stuff on ebay.  I should, but most of us don't.  Don't go pinning your hopes on ebay.  Focus.

Around here they do.  And you know, those aren't the only thrift stores around.  Most communities have church-run thrifts.  There are also consignment shops.  Let somebody else house your Amiga stuff for you (like a consignment shop).


Blessed are the dumpster-divers for they keep usable stuff out of the wastestream.


As a last resort just offer stuff on some of your local Freecycle lists  Freecycle.org and CraigsList.org

Gotta agree with that.  I was taking out the trash at my apartment a couple of years ago and found a Yamaha MIDI keyboard, a Sony Trinitron 17" CRT, and some other computer bits (keyboard, mouse, floppies, etc.).  The monitor still works perfectly (and is in use in my garage/lab).  The keyboard went to a musician friend, I could have sold it though.  I saw the same model on eBay missing the battery cover, but in similar condition, go for $109!!!  

My latest score:  A mint (I MEAN MINT!) condition IBM PS/2, monitor, keyboard, mouse, everything (except the box).  Now, I'm not an IBM collector but this thing is so cherry I had to grab it just to play Zork!

One time I saw one of those big garbage cans out in front of someone's house the day before garbage pickup. There was like 6 monitors in there (under a sack of mostly empty beer bottles). I knocked on the guy's door to ask if I could root through his garbage but he wasn't there, so I went home, got a wagon and hauled those bad boys home. Too bad only 2 powered up, and one of those had no brightness control so it was dark. The other I used for a few months until it exploded. But, the coolest thing was that I got to smash 5 dead monitors with a sledge hammer! WOOHOO!! Turns out that tossing them up in the air doesn't cause much damage. You gotta give them what for... then find a dust pan to clean up all the silvery dust.  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:  :destroy:

amiga.org and redrumloa helped me regain my interest in amiga computers.

I have also purchased a few things from him and found him to be very professional.  I really don't know what political views have to do with it.

As for being a republican you go redrumloa  ;-)
