Amiga stuff thrown in the dumpster :-(
« on: June 20, 2006, 02:36:30 AM »
A couple boxes worth of Amiga stuff, unsellable on eBay, just hit the dumpster :-( Most of it was listed multiple times on eBay with low (see $0.01) starting bids, honest shipping and no reserves. No takers. After losing money and time on the postings, I've come to throw it. It's a shame, but we're relocating and this stuff just has no home.

It's a crying shame when you can't give Amiga stuff away any longer :-(

I guarantee if you lived down the road from me, you wouldn't have to throw any Amiga stuff away :)

did you post a freebie thread here first before turfing them?  Sometimes ebay isn't the best route.

I had posted links to the $0.01 auctions IIRC. I didn't post an all one shot freebie this time though. I have done that in the past, but I didn't hink of it until tonight, and I rwally don't have the timeframe ATM. Must be moved in a few days...

Why share such depressing stories? Misery loves company? :-)

To bad I don't do IIRC and rarly search ebay for Amiga. I'm sure their might have been a couple bits I would have liked. Any floppies or scrap 1200/4000 motherboards among the trash?

I feel your pain redo.  A few years ago (before there was an E-Bay) I had to move and, sigh pithed two working A2000s in various configs...  Not only did it break my heart, but I had to pay an extra fee cause it was computer parts... :-x

This really sucks, why did you not atleast take it to a thrift store or Goodwill? They would of surely taken them off your hands and sold them to someone that wanted it, and also helped a good cause to boot.  I say Nothing Amiga should be throw out!

What kind of stuff was this?? Could you not have given it away for shipping price instead?

And it would have been better to offer it here on amiga.org as well. I personally do not check ebay because price there is usually very insane and i bet others think the same as me.

Rather wasteful.  Why would you throw stuff in a dumpster when you could have at least freecycled it, donated it, or offered it here?

Sympathies Red, I've had to do the same myself occasionally - 4 a500s went in the bin last time I moved house, although I rescued the FDDs.
With all the other arse of moving house, the last thing you need is to be losing an afternoon waiting for someone to turn up in response to a freecycle ad.
Moving house is all arse - you have my sypathies.

I know the feeling.  Around the time Amiga Format went belly up, I completed a Stalin-like purge of my Amiga stuff (sold most of it though). Man, did I regret it a year later.  Wisely, I boxed up but held onto my A4000 and A3000 machines (both 060s).

A year or so ago I discovered Amiga.org....the rest is history

Nowadays the only thing that goes to the bin are the M$ AmigaBasic manuals that come with the odd A500.

OMG, that is just so sicking that so many people start with that "you should never throw away", crap. I guess some people just don't realize that is the way some business in America have to be run. I think I have a good idea have about how much money Redrumloa has lost trying to give away stuff, and it probably cut deep.

I know I had a lot of stuff I was planning on giving away, but I just didn't have the room for it, so I had to get a storage area for it. It nearly cost me my family, it cost me a lot of money every month to keep that. Even when i had no job, THEY still wanted their money. Everything has a price on it. In the economy of today, there is no such thing as FREE.

I feel your pain Red, but that is the cold icy truth of the world, so I don't hate you.  All the others that get on him about not "saving" the drowning Amiga stuff from his ship, should really wake up...

Most likely it was crap anyways so who cares.  If no one on eBay would pay even $.01 do you think it was worth anything at all?

I think Red's smart enough not to trash anything of real value.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

@adolescent

There are some people that will freak out even if you as much throw away anything Amiga or such. Some people actually live in a sterilized world void of realism.
