Anyone reccomending UAE over a REAL Amiga with WHDLoad is going to get a boot in the testiculae!

:-D LOL! Consider me booted, however I've tried both methods and have formed an -informed- opinion.

For simplicity, reliability, compatability, value and versatility WinUAE wins easily by a frikken landslide!!!

For those who -want- to spend their money and time tracking down a mouldy old legit copy of a game, and then spend some more time looking for the WHD patch, and then some cash on regestering WHDload so they can play 15 year old games without a stupid timed spash screen, and then spend some more time installing the game on their HD only to find that floppy #8 is horribly corrupted, WHD wins.

...and I didnt even mention, WHDload bugs & limitations, having to mess around with Tooltypes, PAL/NTSC issues, unsupported-hardware issues, bah!

enjoy.  :-P

When you get the legit game though you get a nice glossy box, manual (with accompanying protection codes), a T-shirt maybe (Akira?), some stickers (Zool!) and the story of the game. You also have a backup should something go wrong with the game on the hard disk.

How do you play WinUAE on a proper communal display device like a large TV or projector? PC video out sucks, imagine the hassles of PAL/NTSC then!

Surely the whole thing with WinUAE is illegal since PCs can't read Amiga disks so how do they get the ADF in the first place? The chances of old viruses re-appearing is also great - BOBEK2 anyone!?

I can see the appeal of keeping a laptop with WinUAE since noone has made a truly portable Amiga (PAWS most certainly does not count), but for the full multimedia experience I'd say the 'Real McCoy' is your best bet.

Shame on you for suggesting otherwise, Father.

Father Jack: Feck Arse! ;o)

A few years back I would've agreed with everything you say.  Now however, its just easier(+++) to get Amiga games up and running on WinUAE.

You dont have to worry about corrupted floppies or aging floppy drives.  Original Amiga floppies are well past their use by date, so you cant depend on them at all as backups.  Getting OCS/ECS games to work accurately on an AGA Amiga can be a real P in the A.  In light of all this, the emulation movement has probably done more for data preservation than all the mad floppy collectors out there put together.  At least in ADF form the data can be easily stored and duplicated.

I have several machines with WinUAE, a Compaq laptop running AIAB, a MAME arcade machine with a genuine 51cm arcade CRT at 15kHz and a small HTPC which plays through a standard TV or through a 5" handheld LCD/Joypad I've built.
